AA Uppers

Just got off the phone with Steve at Alexander Arms I have an upper on order my projected delivery date was this week. Steve says the delivery date is now unknown. Couldn't get a good guessimate or anything from them. Don't know what the rest of you hsve on order with them. But here is what I was just told.

Last month, I ordered an upper, receiver only, got it in about 10 working days.
I'm assuming you have a complete upper on order? Did they say what was the hold up?

Machine shop barrel contour? And yes it was a complete upper. As a dealer I can tell you things are drying across the ar industry suppliers the only company I know of that's even remotely keeping up is Palmetto State Armory. I would have gotten a receiver from them and assembled it myself but couldn't find a barrel with any of my suppliers. So took a chance with AA. Oh well have to shoot one of my other ar's till this one comes threw. Just kinda excited to get this after reading all the great info that's been posted up here on the forum.

There is a lot of demand in the market right now. People are buying AR's, ammo, and CCW handguns/ammo like crazy. Palmetto State is out-of-stock on practically everything AR related, with a few items available here and there.
If I were a rifle manufacturer like AA, and demand for rifles is on a 6-8 week back-order, I have zero incentive to sell critical components to customers. Machine shops are unable to crank out parts for all the rifle-builders out there right now, and it is Obama scare round 2 all over again.

A friend and I spent a whole day last week trying to round up parts for a 5.56 build, and a couple I was able to find only because I knew someone in the industry. Finding even simple stuff like gas tubes, lower parts kits, extension kits and so on is getting nutty!

When I built mine back in the fall, there was a 12 week waiting period on complete uppers by AA due to high demand. The demand has gotten worse since then so I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

So is everyone saying it's just complete uppers that are seeing this delay? I'm planning on ordering an AA barrel and upper receiver from AA, not put together, in the next couple weeks. Do you all believe that I will face the same unknown lead time or will they be able to process it faster since no assembly will be required?

It's not assembly thats the problem, its parts and pieces availabilty.

Unfortunately it's hard to get AR stuff in general right now. My bolt/barrel combo from AA is backordered. Along with several other parts for my build. I just got an email a minute ago from AA telling me my brass I ordered is shipped. It's a start I suppose!

Right and your right also lrrpf52 it just sucks to be us guys on this side trying to build up stuff. I was told yesterday Stag has rifles they're just not intrested in selling them to the wholesale distributors. I was told they will sell direct to a dealer they're cuttting the middle man out.

HuXXXford I would get it on order if you want it. Supressors are the same way we get them but the ATF backround is six months on average on anything that's leaving our gun shop in the north east. I was at a class3 conference two months ago and there is no plans on expanding that department to speed up the turn around.

Good advice...does anyone know if AA charges you at the time you order or at the time the items ship? The only thing delaying my order is the sale of either an EOTech or one of my AR-15. If they charge at the time it ships I will order today.

I think they charge when they ship. I haven't been charged for my backordered parts yet. I was charged for my brass order through them though.

They charge the day it ships. When I ordered my upper I was charged for it the same day I received my shipping noticed.

I m holding the sales staff at bay until the parts drop off the paint line. They ask for delivery updates about three times a day and it is problematic to give precise dates because odd problems always bite you at times of maximum stress. The demand is growing and we are running behind.

incidental tidbits; I was told that Sturm Ruger is so backlogged that they are not accepting any new orders right now. MagPul's website states that due to demand, only dealer orders are being taken for various items.

What is going on? I know people stampeded in 2008 because they were afraid of gun control laws. Are that many people really worried about a meltdown in the country?

Can totally relate as a supervisor working for a private contractor running a Motor pool on a military installation having to be at the mercy of the Federal Supply System. Case in point: Customer: When can I expect my piece of equipment to be ready? Me: Parts are on order. Customer: When will the parts be here. Me: When they arrive. Customer: Where are they at now? Me: Parts Tracker says the 2 tires (commonly available you can buy downtown) left California and are on their way to Japan for a consolidated shipment back to the US and the trucked across country to our facility....ETA, 6/14/12. Customer: WTF!?!?! Me: You're preaching to the choir dude.... Aggrevation on so many levels.... I'm looking for a barrel too... |
