This is new. In Chrome, I have to override now to get my browser to visit this site and the pages therein.

This is because the SAN doesn't contain http://www.65grendel.com so the cert shows as invalid.

I'm getting it too, since about 7:30 M EST yesterday. I sent an email to BFT but have not heard anything.
You have to go thru multiple error overrides to get the site to work.

I was having the same sort of problems yesterday morning but it seems to have cleared up. According to my virus protection, this site contained links to unsafe websites. Able to log on normally now.

I added the site to bookmarks and that made it to where i can access the site normally but there is a red triangle with exclamation point in it at the start of my browser address.

This has happened to me before with this forum.

Tech support (in India, of course) for the hosting service says, "SSL gets expired every 90 days and it gets installed automatically. This time when it was getting installed, the error occured. As specialized department for SSL is working on it, I have submitted the case to the department and they will resolve it for you." Supposed to be resolved within 24 hours (starting late last night), and so it should be resolved by tonight — knock on wood!

I don't think this is a hack attack, though I'm constantly deleting sign-up attempts for fake memberships from Bangladesh, Hanoi, and God-knows-where.

FWIW, as stated previously, it's a server/site issue. Invalid certificate (SSL) so HTTPS will not work. A workaround is using HTTP which isn't secure. That's why your PC/device says unsafe. You either prompt through to access unsafely via HTTP, or you can add the site URL to the browsers trusted list. That should bypass the prompts to continue via unsafe HTTP. Those are temp fixes. I prefer to just live with the prompts until the issue is fixed and HTTPS (SSL) works. But up to you obviously...

Wonder if it's a vBulletin issue? Every forum that I frequent had it's certificate go invalid this week.

I switched to a wireless hot spot for internet access because the buried telephone cables in my area are junk. Being in a rural area it might take a decade for Frontier to replace the cable for 25 houses. Once I started using the hot spot I am not able to get a reliable connection to this forum. I can still access this site using my iPhone. I removed all the security settings on the hot spot but still doesn’t work. I just tried to use my iPad via wifi and I still get the warning and can’t access the forum.

If I use my iPhone as a hot spot I can use my iPad to access the forum. Technology seems to be about 2 steps forward and one backwards for me.

There is 2 possibilities here.

1. The wrong cert was installed

2. The cert was generated improperly and the subject alternate name does not include http://www.65grendel.com

I can access the forum OK but only when my VPN is turned off. When it's on, the little round arrow just keep spinning until it times out. It says the website server maybe overloaded & to try again later. This site is the only one I've seen that does that when my VPN is on.

VPN is secure and encrypted so it requires SSL and HTTPS, it won't work via unsafe/unsecured HTTP. That's why it only works with VPN off. Until the server(s) have a valid certificate, it won't work via VPN. As mentioned above, probably several servers that support vbulletin infrastructure in the "cloud".

I have been getting this "notice" for three days at least, today is the first time I went ahead and made the trip just to see what was being done to get back to normal.............something IS being done ......right?

It's working for me now and I hope for you guys, also. I'm not getting the same error message and I can confirm the little padlock icon is up on the right edge of the URL window.

For you techies out there, here's what tech support said: "Thank you for contacting support. I'm Nagaveni looking into case #S-1415 regarding the SSL installation issue. I understand how important it is to get your website up and running and I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. We are currently experiencing higher than-normal ticket queues and we are diligently working towards getting back to our normal wait time. Case details show that SSL is not installed properly for your domain name 65grendel.com. I have reviewed the SSL status and I'm able to replicate the issue. While moving further, I reviewed the DNS records of the domain and confirmed that it is pointing to us. Rest assured, I have deleted the expired SSL certificate and re-installed the AutoSSL, and fixed the issue!"
