Happy Thanksgiving! What with all the (futile) attempts to cancel out the grand beginnings of our wonderful country, I want to wish all a very Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for the pilgrims and pioneers who braved deadly seas aboard cramped ocean ships, to come to an unknown Land for the freedom to worship God according to the dictates of their own consciences, and not according to what the King or the govt (or the wokester-wannabe-elites/lords/marxists) would decree. I am thankful for their vision of a land of the free and home of the brave. And most of all to God Himself and His plans that will take place -- He is able to set up rulers and to take them down.
May our country never forget the tyranny we escaped, nor take these freedoms or our many blessings for granted!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all. For those that havent educated themselves about what all the Pilgrims went through, its a very captivating story of trial, sacrifice, perseverance, and starting a new life in an unforgiving new world that eventually provided them and their posterity with immeasurable rewards to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
It really starts with the English Reformation under Henry VIII (1509-1547), the counter-reformation/restoration under his daughter Mary (1553-1558), then reversal back to the Anglican Church under Elizabeth (1558-1603), which the Separatists didnt want to be part of. They were subject to arrest and persecution because they didnt like all the Roman Church artifacts left over within the Anglican Church, and were calling for reform within the Church of England, which didnt earn them a ton of friends.
Under threats of arrest and imprisonment for their own beliefs, they fled to Holland in 1608, but then faced arrest there after treaties between England and Holland, so they sold as many of their possessions as possible to charter 2 ships to take them to the New World. Their cargo and passengers would be transported on the Speedwell and Mayflower, but the Speedwell kept springing leaks and was unserviceable for the journey, hence the sole Mayflower as their only hope to get across the Atlantic.
Considering how Jamestown worked out (almost everyone died from starvation and disease), the Separatists on the Mayflower were taking a huge risk.

Thanks LRRPF52. That insight can be easily be forgotten by those of us who learned about it in the 6th through 8th grade more than a few decades ago.
I dont know if that part of our history is even taught anywhere but in specialist college-level courses. Even there, however, I don't know.
