IMR4895 compared to H4895

I have a pound of imr4895 sitting. I see chatter, and loads for H4895.
What's the difference?
Load a bit less of IMR, with close velocities, or will IMR be slower ?
Or
It's not a good powder for the Grendel ?

Load data is not interchangeable.
H4895 is much more temp stable.Unicorn dust.
If you find some,buy it.
If you hesitate,it will evaporate.

Both are good powders, but they are not interchangeable nor the same. IMR is coarser and bulkier so it won’t give good case fill (overfill, actually) on the GRRR. H4895 works great in my Grendels

IMR 4895 is temp sensitive and good for Garands, not so much for Grendels.

Where does it say it is made on the container?

H4895 is made by ADI in Australia whereas IMR4895 was made by General Dynamics in Canada. I say 'was' because I read online that since 1989 Canada stopped making it and all 4895 now comes from Australia. I would be skeptical and stick to the load data which have them about a grain different in loads.

i have compared the load data from reliable sources of the 2 different powders and when comparing apples to apples as to components they are really close but definetly not the same. i was looking for data to load the 458 SOCOM and it led me to the 4895 powders both of which have a use in the 458 SOCOM. back when things were a bit more normal i ordered alot of the H4895 as i didnt find the IMR4895 and made adjustments to data and worked up a very good load for my SOCOM using 300 grain bullets really glad i have as much as i do now for that round!

I'm findING for H in many posting, but not IMR.

Hornady has data for IMR 4895 and H 4895.

Speer has load data for IMR 4895 with the 120 grain Gold Dot..

I only have access to one Hornady manual right now and it only has data for 129-130 grain bullets with IMR 4895 and H4895. I’ll have to check my other manuals later as I don’t have their data saved. I think IMR 4895 is safe to use but I believe there are more suitable powders for the small 6.5 Grendel case capacity.


Nosler has online data for IMR 4895 with 123-125 grsin Nosler bullets. Start load 26.0 maximum load 28.0 grains.

Thanks guys.
Been dealing with doc visits about my back, and haven't checked in til now.
I do have a some of the powders listed like rldr 15, varget, 748, and of course 8208.
I have settled on 28.0grs of 8208 with 125gr partitions, for 2515 fps, out my 18" barrel.
