Getting my ducks lined up for reloading my first batches of Grendel.
Have primers, brass, 400 or so 120 gr ppu bullets and 3lbs of 2460.
I have volume one of the Grendel Reloading handbook and 107's is as heavy as they will go with 2460.
Anything heavier and they suggest faster powders like 2200 and 2230.
Can I work up a load or two with this powder or would it be a waste of time?
Burn rate is just below 8208xbr. Thanks for your help. Dave

If the book shows that you need a diffrent powder with that weight bullet. Then you need a diffrent powder.
Will it work safely probably, will it produce enough speed to be useful, probably not.
If you cant find book data for the combination you have it's always best too not try it, find some diffrent powder for your load.

ike838,
see if you can round up some 90gr. TNT or 100 gr. Sierra, or 100gr. Nosler bullets. they should work well with 2460.

Thanks trbdu, I will look for something lighter. Everybody seems to have 140+ available. 123 and under not so much

evidently either lots of Grendel demand for the lighter weight bullets, or manufacturers are concentrating production on other products.
keep looking. 90gr. TNTs came up (keep an eye on the forum here) recently.
good luck and have fun!

There's data for it on both Hodgdon's site and in the old Western Powders handbook. You won't get max velocity, but if you're target shooting, paper and steel don't care about velocity. I'm finishing up 2 lbs I bought to work through some gnarly 80 gr pulls out of my 243 LBC at an extremely pedestrian 2700 and it worked just fine for the purpose (practice on steel to 300 yds). I did find it to be rather filthy, but I'm an admitted extruded powder snob.
Let's go Brandon!

There is published data for AA2460 in Volume II from Western Powders under the 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.
24.3gr is the start load
27.0gr is their max load under 120gr NBT, 27.3gr under the 120gr SMK
Winchester Small Rifle Primers
Youll have to figure out your allowable COL with the PPU bullets. The 120gr PPU projectiles are good bullets in my experience, very accurate in the factory ammo.

I ran some loads with Hornady 123gr SSTs and CCI 41 primers in Federal brass with A2460. I started with 25gr and went to 28.0 - velocity at 27.0 was 2377 fps with a low SD (4) on a 4-shot group, and 28.0 gr was 2456 fps with the same SD. My PSA 20" grouped best with 27gr, and I plan to go back and do some more tests. It cycled well in the AR. I had a max of 28.2gr listed from the loading data I could find.

Thank you for all the help. At the risk of hijacking my own thread, any thoughts on using Forster Datum Dial COL and Base to Ogive?
Looks simpler and less fiddly then the Hornady Comparator to me. Thanks again. Dave

Im just finishing working up some loads with 2460. These are for hunting loads more so than accuracy.
Ocw round robin and then seating depth round robin.
CZ527 24 bolt gun.
Star line brass 3x/4x/5x
CCI450
Sierra 85gr
30.4 = 2836 avg. s/d 10
Coal 2.125
Groups at .6 moa
Sierra 120 pro hunter

Coal 2.270
Groups at 1 moa
Hornady 123 sst
