Howa 1500 Mini , mag release guard

Hi all.
I am a Howa 1500 owner from Aussie Land.
I got sick and and tired of my mag always dropping out when a mozzie farted on the release lever. VERY dangerous when out in the field in our dense bushland.
I surfed the net for a simple solution but found lots about grinding it down or attaching straps etc.
I designed a very light plastic gaurd that is attached by double sided tape over the lever. There is a hole so access to the mechanism screw is still available.
I am new to this site and would like attach pics of it but dont know if its possible.

I need to find out postage costs and issues, especially to the USA or other countries.
Also if you have already modified your release lever and would like a modified gaurd please send me your measurement of how far the lever extends out.
I have field tested this extensively and cannot get the magazine to accidently release. The only person who has had difficulty releasing the mag when required, was a girl who bites her fingernails way down.
I am not trying to get rich out of this and wish I could have bought such a simple, neat looking and quick attaching solution years ago.

Welcome to the forum Ian. There are two ways to post pictures on this forum. To get larger pictures to appear it is best to use a hot link (BBC Code) from a web photo hosting site. I use Flikr but Imgur and postit seem to work just as well. You can also upload directly from your computer/lap top/tablet or smart phone using the directions below.

How to post pictures
1. Go to the lower right corner of the "Quick Reply" section and click on the "Go Advanced" box.

2. In the next screen, below the "Your Message" section and in the "Additional Options" section click the "Manage Attachments" box.

3. In the new window that opens up click the "Add Files" box, and when that pops up another little window click the "Select Files" box. Go find the file(s) on your computer, click on them, and choose "Open." You should see your file(s) in the little window so click "Upload Files."

4. This brings you back to the main File Upload Manager window, and your file(s) should appear down in the Attachments area. Click "Done."

5. This brings you back to the "Additional Options" section and you should see your image file(s) under the "Manage Attachments" box. You can now either "Submit Reply" or "Preview Post."

Note: Make sure your picture is a standard picture file format is not sized too big.

Thanks. Unfortunately I do not get the attachments box at all. I only get Automatically parse links in text box

First of all Welcome to the horde sir.

Search the past threads in the bolt action section of the fourm. You will find here in the US we have several metal bottom metal aftermarket setups that fix that very issue.

Hi A5blaster. Didnt know they existed. Nice solution but small sticks could still activate the mechanism when moving thru very thick bush.
Dont know about your hunting grounds but it can be very hard going over here to get to the areas the Samba are hiding.
Gum trees grow in very random directions, blackberries, teatrees and all sorts of random undergrowth plus dropped branches etc.
The extender you mention does remove the likelyhood of brushing it with your finger.

I have and I like the DIP products.

They work well for me but install can be a bugger with the spring. Just Make up a slave pin and its a cake walk.

IINM there is a thread about this as well.
