Hi everybody, I have been registered for years but finally getting ready to build some hunting weapons. I have two young boys, 7 and 9. They both target shoot now and the 7 year old has turned into a hunter. Currently hunting squirrels with his 10/22. He is super excited for Spring Turkey too.
Well my plan is to build 3 AR style pistols for hunting deer. I already have the lowers built and now trying to figure out how to do the rest.

Welcome to the clan, JT3, from the great nation of Texas! Check out the group buy section, that section often has pistol barrels. If one or two of these are for your boys, try to find what I've heard called a "pigtail" gas tube. It is substantially longer and circles the barrel to maintain overall length. This will go a long way to reduce recoil and make their experience much more pleasant,

I'm in Nova, have been doing some shooting with my 2 grandsons.
I'd recommend a 16" or so for them vice the pistol... the recoil is easier to handle IMO... like the difference between a "snappy" micro handgun and a regular size...
use hearing protection (which you should anyway lol!) and a muzzle brake and the rifle becomes real easy to manage.
Shoot off of some sticks -- well you probably know the drill.
