hard extraction

I've had this rifle for years, been pretty much always reliable, shoots great no issues. Now lately it's hard to extract an unfired round..
Any ideas why that would be?
I've taken the bolt completely apart, cleaned around the extractor and ejector. Cleaned chamber with brushes.

Is it the same ammunition you always run? Hand loads or factory ammunition? Are you seeing any marks on the bullets where it is contacting the lands? Something is causing it to stick in the chamber.

100gr NBT loaded to 2.250, tried some shortened up to 2.230 and they still extracted hard, have to mortar them out, same load ive been shooting for a long time

rifle fires fine, and bullet does not come out of the case when i eject a loaded round.

Check the gas block hasn't slipped right or left from it's long since mounted postion.

Your gas key could be dragging on the gas tube.

Probably not the issue but you never know till you check it.

Also get you a good foaming bore cleaner and mount a ar15 chamber brush into a cordless drill and while the foam is doing its job on the chamber, work the crude out of it, repeat several times to be sure everything has been broke up and then clean it out very good and see if the condition continues.

im suspecting its the bullets seating length, i tried some other factory ammo and it went in and out like a good friday night.
everything moves freely with out any ammo, no scraping or resistance i can feel or hear.

do you use a copper remover bore cleaner? another thought... have you ever trimmed your brass? if the case overall length gets too long after several reload cycles the case mouth will drive into the throat leade and crimp into the bullet. this could cause your hard extractions as of late where factory ammoi is fine. if you're not seeing rifling leade marks on the bullet, check your case length. i suspect the case mouth is getting pinched into the bullet at the end of the chamber. or that is a possibility. trim that brass length. or at least check it.

Clean the chamber as A5 mentioned. If it moves freely without ammunition then the issue has to be with the round or chamber. Try chambering a piece of resized brass. Maybe something went wrong with resizing. It wouldn’t be apparent to the eye but could cause a stuck case.

I should have read your other post. If you tried factory ammo and it stuck it has to be the chamber. I’ve read before that a little rust can build up in there if it has not been run for a while. Clean that chamber up good see if that helps.

Yeah, you might have built up a nice thick carbon ring, which can get pretty hard, and hard to remove with normal cleaning.

Thanks for the tips guys, filled the chamber with foaming bore cleaner, let it soak for awhile, then used a chamber brush, then a mop on a drill....now its back to its good ol smooth self.
Shoulda started with that to begin with lol

Boy thats a tough question, i do a light cleaning on it after most times taking it out if i put more than a few rounds through it, use a chamber brush and bore snake and a good deep clean about once a year or so, but total rounds through it? i would guess around 5-600 rounds. at least. i use it primarily as a hunting gun, ive used it on antelope, hogs, coyotes, fox, bobcat, deer and a few other varmints. It honestly my goto gun for almost any hunting.

Yeah, that chamber brush attached to a drill is what I have to use on an old beater AR15 after firing Wolf steel-cased ammo. Carbon builds up something fierce, but that spinning chamber brush & bore cleaner gets all the carbon out!
