Metal Mini mags expensive to make?

I was told by MTD that they have looked into making Howa Mini Mags but the "cost to manufacture them is very high". They said they may look into it' later". I've never seen one up close but they don't look that complicated.

Depends on what is considered expensive, I think a well made magazine would sell really well.

Not sure most likely a good many of them. It's the initial cost for the tooling and jigs that's the deal breaker I'm sure.

Look at the price of the CSSPECS Vepr and AK 6.5 Grendel magazines. That should give you an idea of the tooling cost. Supposedly Envictus is going to produce AK 6.5 Grendel mags with a price around $35 each.

Until the bottom "metal" is re-designed to place the mag release lever in a different location or at least completely recessed beneath the belly of the stock making a different mag is a waste of time and money IMO.

Their DBM design and it's obvious deficiency when related to hunting or any dynamic shooting situation is exactly why I sold the OEM, DIP, DIP Mag release, and 2 mags.

I now have the BDL Floorplate by HPK.

If HPK designs and sells a better DBM and mag with the release lever in the position like on AICS mag DBMs I'm in.

And if it maintains the 2.45 inch OAL. Imagine if it was modular with the floor plate design so you could have a flush floor plate when required

If someone could make a Howa Mini mag for $35-$40 in metal that would meet or beat the common prices for the plastic ones. I've seen the regular plastic 5 rd ones for as low as $25 on super duper sale, but commonly they're like $40 for the really cheap. I would be very happy to pay the same price for a metal one with more of an anti-tilt follower because something that annoys me a lot about the plastic howa mags is how flimsy it feels around the feed lips and the follower feeling very tilty.

Love the rifle overall and the placement of the retaining tab on the front of the mag doesn't bother me. but the cheap chintzy feel of the mags is the only major drawback

I'm in for at least 2 metal ones, I'd pay $40 a piece without question. 10 rounders would be nice too.
