My 1250yard attempt

using 123g eld leaving the barrel at 2560-2575fps ( overly hot load )
my sight in on paper at 100y with a 3rd group


and my first few attempts with no spotter in 10-17 mph wind gusts
shooting location

18 inch in diam gong
i much rather would have been prone on the ground but i have just spread manure all over this field so off the back of the flatbed it is , the diamond plate bed makes for harsh left to right adjustments as u will see in vids

hit shot 5 and off the edge on shot 6 in part 1 and hits on shots 2-3-4 with misses on 1 and 5-6 in part 2

im going to reattempt on a calmer day, but i know i can get hits at this range so after im going to push back lil by lil and see just how far i can take it , deff need my spotter with a spotting scope though really tough to see the gong moving at that range with a hit

not ideal but it works lol
hopefully by my next attempt ill have that field all disc'ed in and leveled so i can just shoot prone instead of leaning over the bed of the truck , if i gota use the truck again ill stick a piece of plywood on the bed so i dont have to fight the diamond plate bed

Ty shot 5 was a hit i do believed the gong is swinging when i get out of work today (whenever that may be tonight) ill encode and upload part 2 i have 3 no question hits on it on that vid

Had it not been so windy i have no doubt i could have put more hits on it that bullet is moving damn slow at that range for that miuch wind


Might try so e 130g rdf bullets but i dont think i can get the velocity ill need out of a 130 maybe though

I did some calculations on bullet weights a while back, and found interesting results. I found that a 129+ gr bullet was so heavy, that it never really got up to speed; and a 123 gr bullet actually was better for 1000 yards (the limit of the calculation comparisons), than a 129 was, because of this. The 123 would stay supersonic to 1000 yards, and would stay above 1000 ft-lb of energy for a longer distance than a 129 did; as the 129's just never were able to get up to speed in a Grendel in a 20" BBL. Which is to say, effective range and for both target and game usage, got longer as weight increased; until I hit 123 gr, after which it peaked and started coming back down. But that was all calculation, and for shorter 1000 yards usage. And of course can vary depending on specific bullet and how hard one pushes it. For your 1250 yard real-world experiment, I'm not sure - maybe that's too far for the 123 to reach after-all. Neat to see your usage and experiments.

Ive been using the 123's in my 6.5 cm as well along with the 90g's the 90's will do 1000 out of the cm and 8-850 out of the grendel

Wow I bet they are moving in your 6.5 CM! That's a different game, though, in Creedmoor with a whole lot more gunpowder and almost 10,000 PSI more love, those buggers get moving! 140's+ shine there.

Im only pushing the 123's to 3100 and the 90's to 34-3500 out of the cm ,i havent goten to play with my cm as much as i have the grendel yet

did the calcs on the 130g rdf and if i can get them to 2450fps they will go futher then the 123g eld-ms
at 2300fps they still have less drop then the 123g eld-m out to and past 1250y

no load data for ppv powder and the 130g rdf but nosler is showing 2500 fps possible with cfe-223 and a 24 inch barrel so i think its doable
ont he other hand they are showing 3k fps out of the cm but i think i have a 140g+ bullet in mind for my cm's that will do even better in that

I look at wind drift more than anything, followed by energy.

Even with a .260 Rem in 10-17mph fluctuating conditions, your hit probability drops down more to 800yds if the wind is that variable.

looks like saturday might be a decent day 55* and 5 or so mph winds forcast atleast as of today so prolly head back out again at 1250 , it freaking snowed yesterday today and supposed to snow more tommorow

been busy af with work and everything else going on havent had a chance to do anything , hell it took me 2 weeks before i could fire 10 round ladder test i loaded out of my cm for some new 143g bullets im trying out hopefully sometime this week ill have some time
still havent encoded the part 2 video yet either but ill see if i cant work on that tonight
