Story goes like this. Bought a few boxes to try out. I mostly handload, but I like to see what else is out there. Dialed my rifle in and they shot acceptable. Put the sneak on a herd of pronghorn. By the time we popped out of the creek bed, there were 2 smaller bucks and 9 does less than 50 yards away. The other 45 to 50 were scattered out to as far as 400. I picked a good buck at 245 yards. Broadside standing still. Bang, nothing. Maybe I missed. But the buck turned direction and I sent one more. Smack. I see hes sick on his legs. Bout 10 to 15 seconds and he tips. Well good, let's watch him for a little longer. He eventually expires. Seemed like minutes but was probably closer to 45 seconds. Dressed him out, and bottom of the lungs were damaged no ribs hit. One hole in, nothing out. Oh well, its headed home with me. Skinning him out I see the 1st round hit. Right into the shoulder blade. Never made it into the body cavity. Very little damage. Kinda strange compared to past experience with other bullets and the grendel. Anyway, just an example of one. But I'll be going back to my handloads with sst, ballistic tips and ablr as far as hunting is concerned. I'll get some photos up this week as I get time
If I am understanding that you said you shot a pronghorn with a Federal Fusion factory round at 245 yards and the round failed to penetrate the bucks shoulder blade and the buck failed to respond, then something is definitely wacked out about that. Except for the proximal end that attaches to the humerus, shoulder blades are very fragile bone. To fire a round and have it be on target at that distance and not have it penetrate more than 2-3" seems inconceivable to me, particularly a Fusion bullet.

I'll get some pictures up of the skinned animal. And when I start butchering later this week we will find out what happened on the shoulder shot. Just very strange. The second shot did impact ribs and cause bruising to the meat on the off side. Dont care that it didn't exit.
A5 I'd give em to you, but I gave them to the local prairie dogs for free. Maybe next time

Dang cause my 16 inch loves them and I had perfect results with them last year.

I noticed that when dressing him out that it was really spongy on that shoulder, and thought it was from the second shot as there was no blood on the outside of the hide from the impact of the first shot. But the bruising from the second shot is about 6 to 8 inches farther back. Tonight I'll pull that shoulder off and do some poking around. It's only a sample of one, I'm not jumping to conclusions that that is normal behavior for those bullets. Just showing what happened. The 2nd shot seemed fine as far as it killing what I wanted it to. Was looking at the pictures I took before dressing him out. Notice the hair fluffed up on the shoulder.
So after cutting that shoulder apart, I know I missed the first shot. The damage in that photo is from something else. The wound was barely 1/2" deep. Basically zero bruising to the surrounding tissue. Lots of bruising under the shoulder from the 2nd shot. No obvious bullet hole going thru the carcass off side or the shoulder. I'll pick up another box and try them on a deer in a couple weeks.

Yeah, no big deal. Without video its tough to reconstruct shots and what not. The shot felt good, hence my suprise to see a hole where I wanted to see one, but was definatly not mine ha ha.
