This was just a fun hunt with friends, no necropsy or analysis. A couple of my buddies came down from Minnesota and we hunted with a buddy of mine in north Texas. The hunt came with various successes and failures. We ended up with one exceptionally happy landowner after all was said and done.
The routine was to visit a long string of properties during the course of the night. Night 1 resulted in finding hogs at several locations, often surprise encounters driving across various properties. Nights 2 and 3 followed the same tactic of visiting properties in succession, only we saw much fewer animals.
Problems incurred...
First hog, another shooter didn't have a hot gun when we encountered the hog, tried to quietly chamber a round and it failed to seat. When he pulled the trigger, his gun didn't fire.
First group, me, did a mag change that went from bad to worse that went from a failure to chamber to a stuck round that I apparently induced...all while I was slowly sinking into the mud.
Last day, another shooter had a mag that would not stay seated, particularly after firing 1-3 shots. Not sure how they resolved the issue.
While we had 2 guys with video capability, at various times one or both failed to get video up and rolling. In one case where we surprised a hog at short range that took off running, I had video up and running but could not get out of the truck fast enough to capture the event. The other guy with video capability, in this case, was on the wrong side of the truck to get video in time.
Even so, plenty of video, some pretty good shooting, and the 2 monster hogs, a 310 lb boar and 300 lb sow.
