An Atrocity i Florida today
#1
So I work in a Dr office in Florida . Sebring . There was an atrocity today in a no gun zone about a mile away . 4-5 people were killed about a mile from our office. We were seeing a police officer at the time and he told us that it was not a bank robbery but some kind of mass shooting.
2 years ago the boss made us all sign a "no alcohol or weapons at work" paper. When we heard the news, the boss pulled out his Sig 365, a Nurse Practitioner pulled out his .357. another grabbed her .32. A 70 y/o medical assistant grabbed her .38 snubby.I pulled my KSG out from behind my desk.
My point is even the boss who makes us sign the no weapons policy is not willing to follow it.. and its not like we are going to comply anyway.
So much for gun control.
I'm probably have to give the NP who has the .32 some $ so she can up gun.

Like a scene out of a movie.

Reminds me of the old saying, 'Rules are for the guidance of wise men and the blind obedience of fools.'

Drift, you and I know that piece of paper was more about his liability insurance than his stance on gun possession.

Funny. Not in any headline I can find. Ran a search and nothing. I wouldn't think that five dead would be only a local story.

How about a link?

And, I guess, that because he must have not used a black rifle, there is no mention of what the weapon was

Lots of issues here. The Boss who made me sign a "no firearms at work " clause, was not going to go unarmed at work himself. He just did it to make more money. In fact he made me recommend to him what to carry for his own own protection and he knew where I kept my KSG.
And then there was the issue of me breaking my word of HONER that I would disarm myself just to keep my job.
When I was younger I swore an oath before God Himself never lie cheat or steal, nor associate with anyone who did. Now I do it routinely. Isn't there still a Commandant of God about bearing false witness?
Five Women were forced faced down on the floor and murdered, just because they were they were following their Bosses orders to disarm themselves so their their Boss would make more money. Perhaps some day I will burn in hell for following my Bosses orders too.

Not likely. Time and time again, people who could carry are not carrying. When I used to help with concealed carry glasses and we took surveys of who carried and who did not, about 10% carried all the time, when it was okay to do so. That means that 90% of the people often were not carrying despite being able to do so.

Even in states with Constitutional carry, most people that could be carrying are not carrying. Heck, a lot aren't even gun owners.

There is a good chance that none of those 5 women were even gun owners, and if they were gun owners, that they even had carry permits. Now, Florida does have a lot of permits issued, 1.78+ million. That sounds impressive, but Florida also has a lot of non-resident permits issued to people out of state that make up that number. Even so, that is out of approximate 16 million people over the age of 21. So you are looking at about 11% of the legal age population with carry permits.

It is highly unlikely that all five of the deceased were permit holders. Statistically, at most, one might have had a carry permit. As such, the policy really would have had no bearing on them for following orders.

Also, not all 5 were following their bosses orders. One wasn't an employee of the bank. Where was her gun?

The reality of carry permits is that most people, even those with permits, are not really all that concerned about their personal safety. Most people, by a huge margin, don't even get carry permits. Of those that do, most don't carry when they could be carrying or don't do it with any sort of regularity. For many, a gun is just too much trouble for routine carry. They like to have the option to carry, but fail to exercise that option with any level of vigilance.

My wife has her concealed carry license, yet has to go unarmed where she works. Mine never leaves my side since I have that option. Nobody should ever know your armed if you carry correctly and are very discreet, "yet some do not have those options or are willing to take the risk of getting caught" if ones livelihood is at stake. In your case, you signed a contract and would be held accountable for that signature. Your boss may act sympathetic, "but would use that same contract against you" if it would save his back side. I would never expect an employee of mine to do anything I wasn't willing to do myself. I would expect no less from my employer.

Of course the boss will use the contract against him if something goes wrong. The contract would not be there with such stipulations, otherwise. It is a CYA clause for the business.

Then the boss should lead by example. Do as I say, not as I do, is a poor excuse of management. Drift needs to be clear where his place on the lifeboat is with that captain.
