PSA Grendel Barrel weights

Anybody have the weights of the PSA grendel barrels. I'm particularly interested in the 18" and 20" models. They say A2 profile which from what I understand means faxon gunner/government profile chamber to GB, and .750 GB to muzzle. So PSA will weigh a little more than faxon, but a little less than BA fluted I'm guessing.

I looked on PSA web site and the weights were not listed for the 18" or 20" 6.5 Grendel barrels. If the pictures are correct they do have the government profile. The Group Buy 18" Green Mountain barrels weigh about 2.4 pounds and the 20" is probably an ounce or two more.

I figure the PSA 18" would be around 2.1 pounds but you could probably pose the question on AR-15 Industry forum in the PSA section. Josiah is pretty good about answering questions like these.

PSA does not state the type of rifling on the upper build specs. Do you catch if they are 5R or 6 groove button rifled?

I believe the PSA 6.5 Grendel barrels are 5R with conventional Enfield button rifling.

no problem. I did end up posting on AR15.com and Josiah is going to weight a barrel when he get's a chance. I was pretty close to going group buy but just couldn't get over my grendel barrel being heavier than the Faxon pencil I have planned for my 308.

I am interested in the weight of the psa 18" barrel as well. Used the GM monster 18" barrel in my current Grendel and the rifle weighs 10 lbs right now. Would like to build another but would like to keep it under 9 lbs this time.

I went with the 16” Alexander Arms “Incursion” barrel. 1.52 lbs! It was the lightest 16” barrel I could find at the time. And the performance difference when hunting between a 16 and 18 inch barrel is negligible. IMO.

Gun weighs 6 lbs 1.3 oz.
With a 3-15 Super Sniper in an American Defense Recon Mount, less than 8 lbs 4 oz, empty.


The downside is, it has the bastard sized muzzle threads.

I would just get the AA if it weren't for the muzzle threads. I'm also partial to rifle gas if I can get it because I'm planning to use an aluminum carrier to keep things super light and handy. My naked rifle should be ballpark 5lbs. I think the PSA 18" could be re-profiled to A1 in be in that 1.5 lb ballpark.

AA sells muzzle devices to fit the threads or just buy a cheap thread adaptor and run whatever 5/8x24 threaded muzzle device you want.

My 6.5 Grendel build is what I consider very negligible for weight, ideal for hunting. Aero Precision upper and lower, aero precision atlas handguard with a 20” PSA SS Barrel. Barrel has a “government” profile.

I'm picking nits here but the 2.4 lb weight was quoted by BTF for the 20" not the 18".

Well, that's what I ended up doing, just ordered a 16" Faxon match 5R, weighs 1.53 lbs. My rifle now has a 16" BA Hanson 5.56 barrel that weighs 1.5 lbs I going to swap out for this Faxon 6.5 barrel.
I'm done buying Grendels, will have 3 now, they sure do multiply.

I'm pondering picking up something cheap and having AR15barrels.com reprofile it for me. Could be <Faxon in Weight and price.

only difference is the PSA has a 6 groove rifling if they are the same as the 12" and the other GB GM and Faxon Gunner are 5R
