So after considering all my research, my budget and my intended use, I bought this today:

I added a 10 round D&H magazine, a boresight and a couple boxes of ammo. Ill add pictures here once everything arrives. A range report will follow as soon as possible - hopefully including more pics.
I want to thank everyone here for putting out such great info.

I just ordered the 18" barreled complete upper. I think PSA is going to knock a bunch of folks off the fence.

I've been eyeballing these as well. Can't quite get over the SS barrel though.

The SS barrel had me a little leery as well since Ill be using my to hunt. I figured if it were a problem, I could just wrap the barrel with camo or ghillie it up in some way. Deer are so accustomed to headlights and things I doubt the flash will bother them.

This works well. It is warmer on the hands as well during cold weather hunting. I would wrap the entire handguard.

LOL! Thats the stuff military docs use to hold down the gauze pad after you give blood. But it is along the same lines I was thinking.

Ive been hunting deer for over 30 years. At least 25 of those years with a stainless steel Remington model 700, chambered in 7mm mag. Not once have I got busted or felt like deer spooked because of the color of my rifle. The buck i shot at 30 yards this year didnt mind either!
Most of my hunting has been public land here in WI. Ive also had successful hunts in South Dakota and Montana.
There is absolutely nothing to worry about with a SS barreled gun.

I almost went with a 18" Upper from PSA, ended up deciding on building one from a 16" GB Monster Barrel. I plan on using mine for hunting as well, and I wanted to keep the weight down as much as possible. I figured a few less inches of barrel and handguard would help. Otherwise I would have been all over the PSA, I have bought several other uppers from them and have been fairly happy with them.

I purchased the 18in PSA upper as my entry in the 6.5 world and its nice. Not a huge fan of the rail they put on there and might replace with a lighter MI version. The 18in was quite handy in the deer stand and seems fairly accurate. Haven't had a ton of time to truly dial it in and see what loads it likes but the deer don't seem to notice. I am seriously considering getting one of the 12.5 pistol kits when they go back on sale.

Any reason to not do the barrel break-in procedure with steel cased ammo? I won't be reloading so I don't need the brass. Thanks.

I would want to do the break in with known full powered ammo just to ensure that any issues weren't due to weak ammo.

Wolf steel case is an undersized pill, by .002”, IIRC. I would think you’d have a more effective break-in with .264” projectiles.

I really was leaning toward the 18” but went with the 20” for that little extra oomph further down range. I’m hoping to use this on elk out west as well as for deer (whitetail and sika) in MD, whitetail in AL, hogs in GA and all manner of other things. Just curious but does that 2/1000 of an inch really make that much difference in break-in? Accuracy for sure but isn’t break-in essentially seasoning the barrel with friction, heat, powder & oil? I can’t see that teeny difference in diameter making that much difference. What am I missing?
