Someone posted something like this a little while back that i was actually looking for yesterday. It has the energy and effective hunting ranges on 300blk vs grendel.

C'mon. Enough on the 22 Nosler already lol. Everything should just read "No - supercraptastic case design" but in the absence of that:

Hunting: "excellent for varminting" and it would be at or near the top of the list for that application. This was what it was primarily designed for. And in a state like CO, it allows you to Varmint with it during big game rifle season.

Affordable Shooting: 300 round can of 77 gr NCC available at Shooters Pro Shop for $240. But it's probably this price because everyone else has given up on the supercraptastic case design! Sorry folks, StoneHendge doesn't let cheap steel case near any of his rifles. Plinking is done with 29 cent Norma TAC 223 in his 556 carbine which then provides brass for his bench 556. When it's time to get serious, the 458 SOCOM comes out. And if 224 Valkaris is going to be mid cost, why would 300 BLK be "mid- high" since the 75 gr AE 224V looks to be the cheapest offering and the AE 300 BLK is one of the cheapest 300 BLK factory offerings out there (and which gave me grapefruit sized groups at 50 yards with my BLK)

Long Range Capability: 22 Nosler is much flatter than and almost has identical wind drift to 6.5 Grendel. Below is my actual experience with factory 77 gr NCC in my 18" vs 123 gr Amax in my 18" at the conditions in my app from my last range trips using Litz G7s. Yes, ELD Black has a better BC than Amax, but the Amax was quite a bit faster. And yes, 22 Nosler has less energy, but it has a lot less recoil:

I really don't know where Federal comes up with this doo-doo. They are actually showing 223 as having less wind drift than 22 Nosler at 1k!

.224 Valkyrie is mid cost because all the factory loads from Federal are listed at ~$14/box or 70 cents per. 300 BLK goes from 41 cents on up to $1.86 per.

.22 Nosler will never match 6.5 Grendel wind drift with a 123gr Scenar no matter how hard you push it with a 77gr NCC, SMK, or TMK, even with 300fps more speed at the muzzle. When I run the numbers and look back at real world results with 77gr .224 bullets, you're looking at around a full mil difference at 1000yds, which is huge. What BC are you using for the 77gr NCC, because something is way off if you're getting the same wind drift for both in your calculator. Not even the 77gr TMK comes anywhere close to the 123gr Scenar or 123gr SMK for BC.

For long range shooting, or even intermediate ranges at 400-600yds, wind drift is a huge factor in hit probability, so much more important than trajectory.

6mm is the one that gives very low wind drift, flat trajectory, and low recoil. Not sure why we don't have a 6mm Grendel factory cartridge yet.

Using Litz G7 of 0.193 for the NCC. Been through over 1k of them in the past 6 months with 223 (switched from 69 gr SMKs since Shooters Pro Shop sells them so cheap) and it's pretty much spot on.

But for real world comparison, I get 2900 out of an 18" 22N with a 75 gr Berger VLD Target with a G7 of .217 (no pressure signs with gas turned off; mauled case heads with it on ). I get 2450 out my 18" Grendel with a 123 gr Scenar. Is faster possible? Sure - but that's where it all works really well. (And it looks like better speed on the 75 could be had with Hodgdon's new H4350 data). But even though it's apples to oranges, I'll throw in the 2575 I get with 123 Scenars out of my 22" Grendel. And sorry, my 22N scope is MOA while Grendels are Mils.

At 500 yards, the 22N has 10mph drift of 17.4", the 18" Grendel has 18.4" and the 22" has 17"
At 750, 43", 45.2" and 41.7"
At 1000, 84.8", 88.5" and 81.2"

So really not much more than 1/10 Mil any which way depending upon how you slice it.

Drop is no contest with the 22N at 24 feet at 1k, the 18" Grendel at 32.5 feet, and the 22" Grendel just shy of 29 feet. But I agree with you about drop vs wind drift since Gravity is a constant while wind drift is anything but.

And Im having a 26" 6mm Grendel barrel made to replace the fading bull barrel on my 223 bench rig for a reason!

I used the 77gr NCC that you mentioned. 75gr Berger VLD will definitely help you out at distance with a .224, combined with the speed.

I love my 300 BLK...but probably only because I reload...my effective cost per bullet is down around $0.28 using quality components (CCI primers, Hodgdon H110 powder, Nosler 110gr Varmeggedon or Hornady 110gr Vmax or Nosler 125gr BT or...). Just gotta shop the sales.

Definitely has its limitations but what's not to like shooting stuff from 110gr to 220gr?

But, am REALLY excited to get my Grendel upper built...
