Iv'e spent a lot of time reading posts on buffer systems and what I think I have learned is go standard buffer system with a rifle length gas system, my PF carrier and A1/A2 length stock. Go H3 or possibly lighter H2 when using rifle length gas tube and carbine length stock with same PF carrier. Also should switch from my non adj low profile gas block to an adjustable low profile block with the carbine configuration. Please correct me if I am wrong. I don't understand where The JP Silent captured system falls as it seems to be lighter to my eye. Thanks, John

nobody with any input as to where the JP silent captured system falls in the scheme of buffers??

The JP Silent Buffer goes about the job a bit different as it is tunable by changing springs only, the mass remains constant. The same assembly works for both rifle & carbine versions within a given platform by removing a spacer for the carbine, i.e AR-15 or AR-10 specific units. I am running the JP's in both of my Grendels, one rifle length fixed stock and a collapsible and both run fine with Factory AMAX and all of my hand loads to date. I purchased a spring kit but have not needed to change from the standard supplied spring as yet. Not sure if this answers your question or not. It's the smoothest buffer I've ever felt in the AR15. No hydraulics, just spring, weights, and buffer pad on a captured guide rod assembly. JP is well known for engineering, then machining a consistent high quality product driven from an end-user perspective, since John Paul has been a competitive shooter for decades now. I can't think of any JP products that fall below that standard.

I just ordered one for my Grendel AA 24". A buddy has one on his Grendel too and I tried his lower on my upper. Takes all the "clang or slop" out of the action. I definitely shoot better but it may all be in my head!!
On a side note I DO shoot better single feeding than shooting semi auto. The new buffer will improve this situation for me.

Thank you all for your replies. I think it will work well for me if I decide to go in that direction. Down to the last parts required to finish my build. Will take several months to get all together because I will buy these parts as I am able to set aside the cash and when they become available for purchase. The build box is probably the best investment I have made so far because it helps, unorganized me, to be able to keep all in one place and see what is needed next. No comments on my understanding of conventional buffer system so I guess I am right in my limited understanding. John

Yep. You pretty much nailed it. You just didn't get much on the JP because I don't think too many folks have tried it. I couldn't really comment on it either. I've been rocking the "sproing" system since I was a kid. I would feel weird without the sound.LOL

I don't know a comparative of weights and whatnot off the top of my head, but what I do know is this: I tried one of the JP silent capture springs and I immediately bought enough more that it is imperative that my wife not know how many. Plus, I found out AFTER they offer a meaningful military discount.
I don't miss the "CHAAAANG!!!" against my jaw when I shoot, and you might not either. : )
I use them in both rifle and collapsible/carbine stocks and it works splendidly in both.

KentuckyBuddha, Contacted JP and got info on military discount. According to them they only offer the discount to active military and law enforcement. Would have probably tipped my purchase to them had it been offered to retired military as well. May still go in their direction but would have greatly helped their cause. Thanks, John
