Thor's Hammer..... A long time coming

I set out to build a 16" Grendel back in the spring of 2013. Not to spoil the ending, it seems to have been well worth the wait.

This rifle truly has been a long time coming. It took me down a journey that saw many detours and evolutions.

Initially it was set to be a standard Templar barrel built around a seekins billet set.

That detour resulted in the original Lilja Group Buy. That somehow turned into 2 rifles a 20" built around a seekins billet set and a 16" built with a Spikes billet upper and and Spikes forged lower.

While the barrels were GREAT MOA shooters, I feared the chamber wouldn't provide the versatility I had been searching for. I did learn that I preferred the Spikes Billet upper/forged lower over the Seekins Billet set. (I still have the 16" rifle that I'm not sure if I want to sell it or not.)

After all that, I went to see Mark at PF where I ordered exactly what I had wanted from the beginning chambered with a Manson Reamer. However, I didn't know this was what I wanted at the beginning of this journey. Thanks Mark!

I came home for lunch today and what does the UPS guy drop off at my door. A long rectangular box. I dance all the way through the house with that box. Guess who didn't go back to the office.

I busted open that box and pulled out a beautiful work of art. My cell phone didn't do it justice.



It was time to go to work. A little music is required when your creating such a thing of beauty. And what other music than a little slow country. (Baby making music... can I say that here?)

Now that the barrel was installed, it was time for some ROCK and a good mixture of new (Heaven Knows) and old (Guns & Roses). The local radio stations seemed to know exactly what I was doing this afternoon.

Now she just needed a little glass. It was such a glorious, beautiful day I had to take her outside to mount the scope, level it with a plum line, and bore sight it.



They knew they'd be getting very little attention any time soon.

I take it your a happy camper? LOL! If that rifle shoots as good as it looks, you may be sleeping with it for awhile I have to say everything looks right on it. "You have done well young Jedi". Let us know how it shoots and congrats on your new friend. On a side note I have noticed there are a lot of big dog lovers who own Grendels.

Oh and as you can see there's a few things I don't have weights for, so the total weight is actually a tad higher.

Imagine this sexiness with an 11.5" barrel. I'm getting excited just thinking about the next build.

Has anyone ever machined a QD socket? I'd like to have one machined into the inside of my ACE M4 Socom Stock opposite of the butt.





I'm thinking drill from the rear (butt) right in the center. I may even have more material removed when I do this to reduce the weight some more.

I strongly believe so, but I can't definitively say yes.

Also-- according to Brownell's Q&A, the socket is threaded into a 1/2" hole that you thread with a 9/16"-18 tap. The socket is .503" long, so it should fit your buttplate fine (I think). You need to measure thickness just to be sure though. Once you had one in hand, it might be that you could shorten the socket a tiny bit too.

I use sooooper aluminum. It is even lighter.LOL

According to Brownell's "Field Expert", they will work. I ordered a set off Amazon for just under $8.
