Muzzle Brakes?

New guy looking for advice...

While I'm looking at rifles for sale in the equipment exchange, I noticed that most/all have muzzle brakes. Are brakes necessary on Grendels? They seem a little like overkill for a moderately recoiling rifle.

Muzzle brakes aren't necessary at all. Most guys who shoot long range like them because they allow them to spot their own shots, guys using them in competitions like them because they allow you to get back on target quicker in timed events

A lot of guys run muzzle brakes on .223's in 3Gun because of the ability to get locked back onto a target quicker.

I don't run one on my 28" and I've gone with and without on my 20". I'll say that WCI's brakes do work as advertised. There is only minimally increased noise, and they allow me to spot my own shots. They are nowhere as offensive as the "tank" style brakes, or the Miculek brakes I've also used.

Brakes are a personal preference.

I never did use one until I designed the WCI, I like how this one works, none of the downsides really.

It really does help in spotting your own shots, even on a bolt gun.

i run a bwa on mine and it does really well buuut at the same time it better lol..Warped we will has to give yours a shot we build alot of rifles

I had a friend of mine who is a very experienced machinist custom build me a brake to my personal specs and I freain love the thing. Really makes the rifle bark, but you hardly come off target when when you squeeze one off.
