Hi,
Can someone post a picture of what a factory round, dropped into the chamber "should" look like? You know, with just the upper, so it shows how far into the chamber the round goes!

Put factory ammo in the chamber. Use the bolt to make sure that the round is all the way in. This is easier if the bolt is not installed in the carrier. Remove the bolt and point the barrel up. The round should fall out. If you have to use a cleaning rod to get it out that is not good.

I doubt you could see any difference by sight. A better measurement would be
The depth from the barrel extension to the flat on chamber end
- barrel extension to the end of a cartridge
= < the depth of the bolt face.
You can also remove the extractor and ejector from the bolt and test it with a cartridge and you should have a good fit.
If your wondering if your chamber has a throat issue you can put a factory 123 A-max or SST in the barrel and push it in by hand.
The shoulder of the brass will only let the case go so far in.
Factory brass usually has around 8 to 10 thou headspace.
I set my fired handloads to have 4 thou headspace.
If you push a round in and it falls out the barrel when turned upwards it's probably good enough.
If you can manually cycle the rounds by hand with no resistance that is usually good.

Also if you use your bolt to engage the bullet into the barrel, make sure the head space is correct, .135 to .136. I had a batch of .130 to .132 bolts that caused the jamming issue.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses, the reason I am asking for the picture is, I have dropped a factory Amax in my chamber and it stops with about 3/8" of the back end still out of the chamber. I slightly pushed with my thumb and it didn't seem to want to go any farther. And, with the BCG in it won't in near enough. Being a complete novice with ar's, I really don't know what to look for and this short chamber thing has got me nervous. My next step is to try an empty case for comparison. Since this is my first rifle of this type I will probably send it to Precision Firearms to be checked out(and "fixed" if it needs it).
I would still like to see a picture if anyone is in the mood.
