Ya I was thinking of heating it an use the strap to see which breaks loose, either will do, I'll be trying in later today.

Plans changed for me this morning. 12" of heavy snow and been plowing for hours.

My first Grendel had this tube, and it was not able to be saved in the removal process. It's epoxied to the nut, as LRRPF52 notes, and I also believe it takes a special wrench to hold something inside.

Why cant the nut be removed from the rear,pull off HG and nut as one piece? I know there is a tool out there for doing it but have yet to hear of it being done successfully with a loctited nut....

There was no way to separate the barrel nut from the HG so yup, it came off in one piece. Just heated it up for a while and used a pipe wrench, it broke free pretty easy. Now the nut and HG are one piece, but oh well, not on the radar to be used, it is heavier than a 12" Hand Guard I've installed.

I used my Sun Devil Upper in Burgundy. Looks great as I was hoping and dropped it on a lower just to have the excitement of another new toy. Pictures aren't the best but you get the idea.

How do you like that stock? I've one on one of my long barrel builds. Rifle length, if my eyes don't deceive me.

1st stock like this, been hard finding them and sort of expensive. Very rock solid and a little heavy too.

The lower you see is for my Lilja Grendel because the 17HMR will take a permanent mag block so this was just to set it up on tonight. I think it will go on a forged lower with a Ace Skeleton Stock. The HG is a 12.5" and there is no gas tube/block for the 17HMR. I'll see how it cycles tomorrow and hope to get the rest together after work.

I just ordered the same buttstock(rifle length) for my 20" AR740 Lilja barrel. I'm excited to get it and try it out.

What are your initial impressions of it?

That's nice right there Tedward.

You can use the old handguard for a break-down pistol caliber blow-back carbine or another rimfire.

Thanks, I know AA reworked the extractor and some other things so the wait will hopefully be worth it. It was $30 extra for the spiral fluting and it is well worth it just for the looks.
I think I'll try the soak it and break down method now that its off the upper. I'll use it for my son's 16" Grendel woods hunter. He doesn't have a lot of cash so I can get him a set up with a lot of spare parts laying around. He came up to help me, he's 21 and into girls and motocross, and said he doesn't like coming in the shop because he wants everything. I told him he can work for it so I think I'll be seeing him more often now. He's into hunting with shotguns and camo so that will be right up his alley, he wants a Grendel bad. I think we will do some foliage paint testing this spring. Practice on his then do myself one too.

The stock comes with a heavier than normal buffer tube. It is rock solid and a little heavy. Should be good balance with the 20" barrel. I'm going to have that on my 740 too. I have a Spikes Billet Upper I finally got for my Lilja so that will be the set up possible with a light weight 15" SLR HG. if its stock heavy, I have a different HG that might make it balance better. I want it to be balanced from the hand grip location.

Do you know if the SLR clamp on adjustable gas block will fit under their LW Solo SLR HG? It looked a little tight according to their drawings , but I like the look of it for my daughters rifle.

The SLR Adj. GB's all work with there Solo HG's but not positive on the 3Gun model HG. Call them to confirm if you have questions. Good bunch of people there and great products.

The Adjustable GB's are great but when using a tubular HG, they might have fit issues. They need that channel under the ridge of picatinny on top for the GB's to fit.

Did yours come with a 3/16 allen bolt that you didn't know what to do with? I got the 2 screws for the rubber pad and then another one I couldn't figure out where it went.

Did you need a larger size AR wrench to tighten the castle nut? My AR wrench wouldn't fit.

I didn't put the pad on yet and I used the regular wrench. Just hooked it with the first lug and rested the other prong on the top of the nut, it tightened like that pretty good.

I just checked and it came with 2 little ones that fit thru the pad and one bigger allen head one. Not sure what its for. Maybe it goes into the buffer tube, my rifles are locked up right now so I'll try to figure out what its for tomorrow.

I didn't think you needed a separate buffer tube with the Ace M4 Socom Stock. Not knowing what that screw is for is going to drive me nuts.
