Help!! Broken bolts!

I thought that the barrel assembly was where a rifle was headspaced, not a bolt. That way you could replace the bolt without issues.

The barrel, barrel extension, and bolt all are factored in when headspacing an AR15 barrel. The bolts can't be fit so tightly since it's a gas gun, but there still are some maximum tolerances that can't be exceeded.

Another way to think of it: The headspace of the bolt combined with the barrel extension will determine how deep the chamber has to be cut in the barrel to ensure a proper total headspace.

i get that for sure. but i just dont understand why there is ever ever a question of some kind of special headspacing a particular BOLT to a barrel. if a barrel is manufactured and it needs a bolt that i cannot just go order from LBC, maxim, precision firearms or from anyone who sells a 6.5 grendel replacement bolt i would want to know that so i dont buy that barrel. thus headspacing better be for any barrel with the designation 6.5 grendel for a what we call a replacement bolt.

Early on there was a manufacturer that modified 7.62x38 bolts to work for the grendel. These were set to 0.125" and are called Type I bolts. Type II bolts from the same company are actual grendel replacement bolts.

I think that the type I is what they sent with my liberty barrel. Does anyone have a rifle that uses the type I bolt?

"Type I" is a Black Hole Weaponry internal term, and has no chronological bearing on the development of the Grendel.

I'm pretty sure Satern/Liberty has used .136" face depth bolts with the Liberty barrels.
