So I added a bunch of weight on optics and lost some in the rail, my optional optic for close up work is an aimpoint pro.
So.... I guess I'm looking to improve things any way I can before I put it all in a pelican or storm case. I do plan on setting it up for both optics and when I use the aimpoint ill most likely have a pvs14 on it.

A big chunk of weight is the barrel, followed as you say by the scope. I am not sure cutting anything else is going to offset their weight. Certainly not to a degree you will notice.
Maybe carry fewer rounds in the magazine on long walks but the AR is already a pretty light platform for a gun.
Kinda funny, only carry 2, 5rnd mags on my body usually 4 more in a pack in the vehicle. Part of the time that vehicle is a 4 wheel scooter because of my injuries. In the future I may be in a wheelchair or scooter full time. I have 17 adversely affected discs (4 replaced by titanium and cadaver bone) in my back from being ejected from a helo in eastern Afghanistan. I also have a pair of bad knees and a blown rotator cuff.
On the lighter side, I know that the update won't affect much in weight but it will upgrade the overall capabilities of the rifle. The only things I regret about the rifle is the heavy receiver and not getting the barrel fluted or carbon wrapped.

Saw that one, would save almost 12 oz. Because they are not available yet, bcm said 2nd quarter this year. I thought about waiting but the Fortis is sexy and lighter than the lancer one I was going to buy originally.

Already bought the Fortis but might look into it for my 556 rifle with another way too heavy barrel
Mounts plus is not too far from me, might call them tomorrow.
Anyone know if the mega side chargers are lighter than my dpms lo pro
Might look into the mega upper vs the dpms I already use, mega is lighter I think, the dpms weighs a ton and easily underestimated until people see it.

I think for the horde it's $350 with carrier. I don't know about bolt. There's an entire thread devoted to it.

Yeah looks like they arent providing a bolt, less attractive when theres no bolt. Nibo bcgs can be found for 110-150 and a good upper for less than 100. So adding the fixed handle that snags on everything and keeps it from sitting in the pelican correctly is an extra $200... ambi isnt needed for most shooters anyway especially if they are just hunting. Unless they are a lefty with ocd... my whole career I didnt have ambi controls and was even wounded in my right arm once, fired left handed after that.
