As the title implies, its not a grendel but it seems like every gun manufacturer is taking note of the 6.5 diameter bullet and its highly accurate capabilities. This can only mean more production and even more projectile selection. The 26 nosler wont fit in an ar15 mag at 3.340 col. but it is claiming a super flat trajectory. Had to post this

yeah it looks to be basicaly be a 6.5 ultra mag suposed to shoot a 140gr at 3300 and a 129ably at 3400 which will make it the fastest 6.5 production round but there have been plenty of wildcats to do the same or better such as the 6.5 STW, 6.5 gap comes close, and you can almost match it with a 6.5-06 AI with a fraction of the brass cost

I like the 375 Ruger as a parent case, hopefully norma or lapua will start making brass.

The SAUM is supposed to have a shockingly long barrel life though. Hard to imagine the Nosler will be all that much better than 220 Swift. It would be a monster though.

The SAUM/6.5 gap barrel life is kind of a fluke there gas not been enough data points to declare the round has excellent barrel life

Either of them can have long barrel life by using H-1000, and keeping the pressures low. GAP purposely set out to keep the pressures between 55,000-58,000psi to prevent gas-checking the throat, which is what a lot of people do in ther quest for more and more velocity.

To achieve velocity and long life, GAP went with case capacity, which there is also plenty of with the 26 Nosler. While the Nosler uses a long action, GAP wanted a very lightweight rifle with a short action, as basically a do-all bolt gun. Light enough to carry in the mountains or run with in competition, powerful enough to reach out and drop large game at over 1200yds, which George and his buddies have been doing with the 6.5 SAUM since taking it out into the field.

Weight with optics is under 9lbs, which is very impressive.

I read a review of it in one of the recent American Rifleman magazines. It started off with some interesting comments, seemingly critical of concerns people raised online, one of which was short barrel life.

At the end of the test, which was maybe 100rds, they analyzed the throat and found that early erosion was present.

I heard an interview with a Nosler sales rep and he flat out admitted the barrel life would be short. I like the concept and numbers but this caliber is pretty much a marketing gimmick IMO. I wish them success with it but I don't think it will go too far. Hell, I'm even seeing .338 LM loosing favor to good 'ol .300 WM in some circles. It's funny how market trends cycle between the latest and greatest to practical tried and true.

If they would use a large extruded powder that burns slow, fill the case, but keep the pressures down in the mid-high 50's, then the throat could be preserved.

There is plenty of performance. To me, it makes the case for the 6.5 SAUM, since you have the short action, light rifle, and only 6 Mils to 1000yds.

Interesting. Google doesn't turn up much but PTG shows reamers and gauges on their web site. IF I were looking for a rifle of this type, I'd probably lean to the 28 over the 26. Just a little less "overbore" and good high BC bullets.

True. 26 nos and 7mm RUM both use 404. Jeffery as the parent case.

PTG list a long line of wildcat reamers based of the 26 nos from 25 cal to .416. Is Nosler really coming out with a new factory rifle or is this just someone's wildcat?

It's true they are coming out with it, first or one of the first offerings 175gr Accubond Long Range and they will have two offerings in there M48 line.
