What's the best powder for lightweight bullets.

Will the sierra 85 grain bullets hammer coyotes.

Ahem - the newly released 6.5 Grendel Reloading Handbook, Vol. 2 includes some pretty diverse loads for that pill. Mentioned are Accurate 2200, 2230 2460 and 2520. These report high 2800's to high 2900's.

From Hodgdon, H322, H335 and H4198. These deliver low to mid 2900's.

Yes, at 2900 fps, the 85 grain Sierra HP Varminter will drop the hammer on a song dog with extreme prejudice.

Sorry to get a bit off topic, but does the vol. 2 handbook also include the load data from vol. 1? I'm just debating on which one to buy and i'm not much of a hunter so if 2 doesn't include the info from 1, I will probably start with #1.

Get them both and you should be able to save some on shipping. It is worth it to have both on hand in case you want to try more loads than what is just in Volume 1.

Just taking a cursory gander at 85gr pill loads...it looks like the ones in Vol 1 are in Vol 2. If you HAD to get only one of them I would get Vol 2, but I am far from disappointed that I got them both.

H335 is the one that was most appealing to me since I load other stuff with it as well. ymmv

I use 30.6 grains of 2230 and average just over 2900 fps. It is like a lightning bolt on dogs. You don't need to worry about runners if your shot is off and end up hitting them in the stomach. This one was at 230 yards.

Got the 85's shooting 1/3 inch at 50 yards with 29.6 grains H-322.
Fireformed some 7.62x39 brass and got half inch groups with 28.6 grains 2230.
The H-322 load is always accurate and goes around 2775 fps in my 18 inch barrel.
Got is hitting dead center at 50 and think it should shoot flat to around 200 yards.
Chart says 5 inchs low at 250 and 11 inchs low at 300.
Haven't had to shoot farther than that.
Too much deep snow to sight in at 100 yards but should be shooting 1 inch high at 100.
Might take it out coyote hunting went we get a thaw.
My 4x16 scope works a lot better than the holosight I had on it.

Try a something new. RL 7 @ 27.8 as a start point. Don't go past 28.3==== work up to it, slowly =do the ladder test/find the accuracy node.

It will hit 3000 , easily., in a 20" bbl. Just a different take on the lighter pills.

I'll try out RE-7 soon I hope.
The weather has been pretty bad here.
My Liberty barrel came with a throat around 30 to 40 thou short so I've been holding off trying a faster powder like RE-7.
I like RE-7 in 357 max and 300 BLK with cast bullets.
3000 fps sounds good.
