Yes, an extended length is roughly 2" past the RLGS. There are plenty of 15" long handguards nowadays too to cover the gas tube and better fit the 24" barrel profile.

A 24" barrel with a standard RLGS has a lot more dwell time than a 20" RLGS, so port pressure and the reciprocating mass need to be balanced accordingly. With an extended length gas system, you will have a wider envelope that is balanced with the BCG and buffer/recoil spring, and the accelerating gases acting on the projectile will have more time to act on it before it hits the gas port location, from which point we see a change in internal ballistics gas dynamics intentionally bleeding to operate the self-loading features of the system.

I will be very interested to see your results, as I think you will be able to realize velocity increases over RLGS 24" barrels. Make sure you use a more rigid, beefier upper receiver to support the heavier barrel. Standard AR15 receiver profiles were meant to support a lightweight barrel shooting .222 Remington 55gr loads at 50,000psi chamber pressures.

So there is more time for the expanding gases to work on the bullet before it starts to get diverted to operate the bolt.

As far as an upper, I'm using a Vltor. From what I've gathered they are definitely forgings and are beefier than the typical forged uppers. I also believe they cryogenically treat it after forging and before they machine it. I feel pretty confident in this upper and I love Vltor products.

I sent the upper and lower off to cerakoted, I meant to take a ID measurement of the barrel receiver portion of the upper. I am a little worried about a loose fit between the barrel extension and receiver ID. I'm worried that all the load, whip, etc will be placed on the lips of the extension and end of the receiver.

I wanted to verify that it has an extended length gas port.

How long is an ELGP?
Where are the measurements taken from? Front of barrel extension?

Is total barrel length taken from same location

These pics don't have shoulder dimensions from a reference point, but the ELGS should be ~2" longer than a RLGS. There are different shops that have the gas tubes made for them, and there is no industry standard for an ELGS that I'm aware of, although there seems to be a common use among different custom shops who get their gas tubes from the same places.

I really like the one I have in one of my Grendels. The other is a Timney that came OEM on the Sabre Defense Lower that originally was my 204 Ruger. I give the CMC a slight edge in crispness and NO creep over the Timney, noticeable only when shooting for group. Afield I am satisfied with both.

Thanks for the info guys on what you have and using. The trigger and hand guard are still in the air. Hand guard length and weight will be a concern because of the Extended Length Gas System and the barrel profile is 1" to the gas port area.

The trigger decision will be a lot of reading reviews and getting feed back. Just not a lot of ways to try one out to see what you like. Being my first long range gun, I'll need all the help from a trigger I can get.

Yes Cory, that is the one I saw a while back and couldn't find who made it or where to buy it. I got the name from this trend and have saved that information. Like I was trying to say too is it seems as if some Magpul dealers would carry and promote this product. It is really needed when carrying the PRS as heavy as it is but once you get where you want to be, removing the sling is nice. Undoing the strap sucks

I have had 3 different triggers on my bench gun. I just got the Geissele SD-E flat trigger. WOW, what a difference, and I thought it was me being a bad shot, the trigger makes a bigger difference in your accuracy than its made out to be. I wish I would have saved those $60 better then the $120 good two stage and gone straight to this. All of the ammo wasted too. I'll use the others on my field guns that don't need 1/2" groups or give it to my son but the SD-E is so easy to pull and crisp it is unbelievable. I got it at our Gun Show for $220 so it was a good deal or I wouldn't have bought it to find this out. Well I sold something and made a couple bucks to justify it was only $120 ..

If you decide to go with one try and find them on sale or there $250 at most places. I don't know about all of the other triggers and which is better till I try one but it sure would be nice to get a bunch and do some kind of comparison. Even Geissele G2S is suppose to be great ($165) and I might try one of those next just to see how it feels. The flat blade is ideal for the bench in my opinion.

Thanks Tedward, I pretty much only have other people's comments and reviews to go on. Noway of testing them out to see what is best. I'm sure whatever I buy it will be the best trigger till I try another new trigger. I'm sure of the previously mentioned triggers will be the best I've ever had because the best one I've had is a RRA NM 2 stage.

I did a lot of research on upgrading the PRS and the sling mounts and the extendable butt plate were what I found.
The butt plate gives you a little more LOP the the Magpul Version. buy the grover or midway qd flush cup sling mounts
