I just spoke with Mark about this. Basically, he tried to help forum members out by offering the bolts at $68, as long as you combined the order with something else on his site. This offer was on the honor system, and people started ordering 4 & 5 bolts at a time and nothing else, so he had to pull it off earlier today.
There are over 75 of us who put the impetus together by backing the Lilja barrel group buy order several months ago, and the bolt group buy was a direct result of that, since Lilja is not in the business of making bolts.
I will do what I can to make sure that those who have ordered barrels are given some consideration in this, since PF has really gone out of their way to help us out with the bolts by buying them in volume from the machine shop.
Also, as to those who are concerned about Nickel Boron adding dimensional thickness to the bolts, you need not worry, as NiB will add a half a thousandth at most. It isn't an issue.
Mark is involved in helping support this caliber in a lot of ways that I didn't even know about, so let's do our best to honor the terms he gave for the bolts. For example: If you have been following, he is also working with Barnes so another production hunting load will be available to us with the 100gr TTSX.

I was not remotely tracking that. I ordered two of the NiB for several times the $68 number, but would have been delighted to have bought other stuff if I had known it was an implied conditional of the deal.

When did the bolts go up for sale? I must have missed it? That is what i get for leaving the interwebs for so long at one time....
Any idea when they may reappear so somebody in the lilja gb looking for one might be able to snag one?

I haven't been able to figure out the prices for the coated bolts. Been following this thread since I got in on the Liberty barrel buy. I sent them an e-mail offering to buy a bolt and several mags if the price is right, and told them I was from the Grendel site. Hopefully it will work out. Did anyone ever say if they are considered a hard use bolt???

One other thing I learned from our conversation was that Mark worked with Nosler on the 123gr Custom Competition, so that bullet would be built with the Grendel in-mind. More evidence that he is working hard to support this cartridge.
I think I saw this briefly before, but we talked a little more about the PF Arion 6.5 Grendel with 18" premium barrel, intermediate gas system length, and basically top-end components throughout the rifle. He had custom gas tubes made for this set-up, which runs really well with the 18" barrel:

When you put in an order for a bolt, please consider that he is doing this for us, and is losing money at $68 per bolt. I expected to pay way more from the start, but he really wanted to be generous to forum members. He is getting stripped bolts, and having to add all the other parts, build them up in his shop, and trouble-shoot them, so there is only a loss at $68 per, hence the humble request that we buy something from him along with that. Thanks to all who have supported these projects, and have been waiting patiently.

I will be ordering one or two of these when the become more readily available, but I figured for now I wouldn't be greedy since I have a LBC bolt to use for the Lilja barrel I'm getting. In fact Dan has my bolt right now to headspace all the group buy barrels to.

The option was given to those who bought the bolt to choose black or nickel boron coated. The cost for the coated bolts was $10.00 more. I think it was a tab right next to the quantity tab.

There is a PF price, a grendel forum price, a Black Friday price, and when I tried to order they were sold out and it would not show the "option" prices. I would have ordered last Friday, but there seemed to be too much confusion about the price, how many, etc. Like I said, hopefully Mark will reply to my e-mail and I will get a spare bolt at a good price.

I think he will be looking for anyone who ordered more than 2 (if that occurred), pull those and fill the orders as they came in, e-mails too. Mark will do what is best and give him some time to go thru the umpteen hundred e-mails he probably got.
Not speaking for him, but he is busy.

Yeah, A bit confusing. I am sure it was an issue Mark didn't expect to have to straighten out. And now he has to deal with over zealous 4-5 bolt orders too. I bought mine had a 5% at $76.00/$86.00 with coating (listed at $80.00/$90.00 with coating) and then found that the correct discount was not being computed. Mark was going to review the orders placed; and manually fix them to show $68. I am expecting $78 since I ordered the coating. I hope there are bolts left for those that didn't get a chance to buy them when PF decides what to do with the latest mess. Leave it to some greedy people to order more than the limit. I hope it gets resolved before the bolts arrive. If you PM'd Mark, and he has the ability to help, you should be ok.

I am building one upper for me and another for a family member. We are combining our orders on all the parts since we want similar items on our grendels. Because we need a complete BCG and a spare for each rifle, I placed an order for 4 total. I did email Mark with my order number explaining this so I hope my order doesn't get deleted.

One of the reasons I have really enjoyed the Grendel forum since 2009 is that we generally refrain from the type of drama I see on a lot of other forums, and members know they can come here and have technical discussions about the cartridge, hand-loading, AR15 nuances, etc.
This is the second time within a month that I have noticed PRIVATE messages being posted on an open forum. I have been working this whole time going through edits with the other authors of Volume II of the 6.5 Grendel Reloading Handbook.
I would hope that the members of the Forum could continue to enjoy respect of privacy when sending PM's back and forth. The lesson I have learned is that appears not to be the case for the first time in 4 years.

I come here to read about fun stuff - learn about black guns in general, and Grendels in particular. If I wanted drama, I can always call my daughter and ask about her life.
This type of nagging is what causes constipation of the brain, diarrhea of the mouth, and can kill the spirit of an otherwise good message board. I just hope it ends soon.

I purposely stay out of these back and forth and witch hunting episodes, but I have to respond to the recent one here.
TED: I sent you a PM. Publicly, I never blamed you for the first batch problem. I didn't even suspect you sent the supposed "wrong" bolt, as I know, you know better. I was only told by Maxim that the measurements were pulled off a bolt someone sent him. We have since sent drawings back and forth to correct it. We also have sent a true Grendel Bolt to Maxim to confirm all measurements. We also checked the current batch before they went into hardening and final turning. Other forum members and I recognize your input in getting Maxim and I together on this project. If it wasn't for your insistence that I call Maxim, I would have probably went to another supplier and may not have received as good of service or lead time as Frank at Maxim has given us. The quality of his workmanship is something I would back up with my name and reputation. Frank is my type of guy and I believe we will do a lot of business together. You, TED, made that happen!
