Stevens 200 bolt?

Is the Stevens 200 bolt head interchangeable with the Savage rifles? I found one locally that is in .223 (short action) and it seems to be begging to be turned into a 6.5 Grendel. I know they are made by Savage just not sure they are the same bolt heads.

Yes.

I have a Stevens 223 and a Savage 260. Never swapped the bolt heads on em but I could.

I installed an Accutrigger on my Stevens because I wanted them to have identical 2 lb triggers.

Midway sells a PPC bolt head and Savage should sell you one from their 7.62x39 Scout Rifle parts bin. If you want a longer OAL just grind down the bolt stop on the head.

Well I did it, I bought the Stevens 200 short action in .223. I'll probably shoot it a few times just to see how it shoots and then start the conversion process to trun it into a 6.5 Grendel.

Cool! Tell us more. Short action you say! Are you going for a handy little hunter? Or a heavy target rifle? I had a 700 Remington .223 short action made into a Grendel, I'm sure you'll be as happy with your result.

I am going for a (sort of) lightweight hunter with maybe a 22 or 24 inch barrel. I'm thinking about a fluted barrel but haven't made up my mind yet. The synthetic stock is ok and will do for a while.

I'm one of those people who believe that all else being equal, the shorter the barrel the more accurate.So..a kinda short, heavier barrel could take you out past 500 yards. 24 inches of barrel should take you past 800 yards.
