Anyone know anything about War Dog Outfitters.

Mike has been building me a custom 223 and a 6.5 grendel upper for about 15 months now. He's had problems with AA bolts and reamers, personal problems, etc.... but usually answers the phone or calls me back or returns e-mails. Have not heard from him in 3 months and will not answer phone or e-mails.

Anyone know what's going on?

I think you just gave us your answer, my god how long does it take?

A rifle can be assembled with great care and expert workmanship in one hour or less.

They're custom projects with Satern barrels, Adams Arms gas pistons, and ASA side chargers. But, you're right about it taking way too long. Last I talked to him (3 months ago) he said he had about 75 custom rifles which required his specific attention to assemble. Just thought somebody here might have heard something.

1- It should not take this long to have a rifle built....sorry you got hung on that.
2- Sounds like he took on more work than he was capable of fulfilling in a timely manner. That can kill your reputation.
3- I would send him a Certified Mail letter asking what is up as you have been unable to contact him. This way you have a record.

Did you pay with a credit card? If you did and do not hear from him soon, call your credit card company. They don't take kindly so people who charge credit cards for services they do not provide or complete.

If you did not put out any money, I would send him a certified letter telling him to cancel your order and then take your business to someone who appreciates it.

Been through this with old War Dog with one or two guys on the last forum. Same issue, same reasons, same lack of response.

See if the guy has taken your money and if not, cancel the credit card payment and send the guy a certified mail stating to cancel your order. Then go to Templar or AA for your needs.

Too bad you didn't ask here before you dropped the money.

Unfortunately, I paid with a CC at the begining and anything over 90 days out is essentially indisputable via Capital One.

Sending a certified letter is a good idea. I'll do that.

I've unfortunately been throught this with go-gun/E-Tac on a Saiga 12 conversion (over 3 years) and with Mike's Gun Sales for a 338 Jet suppressor. However, both of those have at least been resolved.

RAWN, get a reversal on the charges and call Bob at Templar, he won't leave you hanging and will be the best damn rifle you have ever owned.

He builds all of them as if your life will depend on them, accurate as can be, his rifle helped Ricky Harris win the Sniper competition last year and he was only shooting a 5.56mm.

Many of us here know Bob and that guy would give you the shirt off his back.

Here's an update on my orders with War Dog Outfitters: Mike has has many problems/run-ins with Alexander Arms. Bad bolts and reamers and waiting on bad bolts and reamers has really set him back. It's really not his fault and I believe that he is a good guy. I disrespected him awhile back trying to corroborate his story and have just now made amends. He contacted me this past weekend. Project is still up in the air though because of waiting on functioning bolts. Keep you posted. Thanks for all the input.

There has not been an issue with bolts for years, it was not many bolts either.

I would be somewhat skeptical of that explanation.

I know something about them now. I had a similar experience with Fidelis Arms, which turned out to be a complete fraud. I kicked in my investigative resources and tracked his activities over the past few years, including name changes, moves, and customer feedback across several other sites. It all pointed to one thing: He took the money and delivered nothing, although one witness on this forum actually saw him at a gun show in Oregon.

I usually utilize a Visa gift card for the exact amount when dealing with a new company to protect myself, which is what I did with Fidelis Arms. Once I determined it was fraud, I reported it to the bank, and reversed the charges. I tracked the registered owner's excuses from emails sent to others, to forum posts, etc., and it was the same story over and over. "We just went through a major move, and are halfway done with your order. It should be shipped in the next 2 weeks. Thanks for your patience during our transition as demand for our products increases and we hire more people...."

This was the story being spouted to me and others, while what was really going on was other companies severed professional relations with Fidelis after experiencing the same behavior, he was forced to leave rental after rental, and locals in his area said as much. He actually told me he had my AR10 lower receiver right on his desk waiting on my FFL to fax their copy to him, and later told me it was halfway finished, and that he would hate to stop the order in the middle of manufacturing! The biggest challenge with lying to people is keeping track of who you told what lie to, and I caught him blatantly in the act. I only let that go on for 2 months, as I needed the lower for a rifle build for an international competition.

I hope this is not the case with War Dog Outfitters, but if it is, you need to protect yourself. I also don't normally deal with gunsmiths who expect advance payments or downpayments on services. There was a gun store here in Draper that took over $100,000 in customer money for advance payments on AR15's and AK's during the Obama salesman of the year period, and the owner put the money into other things, expecting business to be able to make a turnaround to actually buy the AR's and AK's when they became available again. I still see former employees from that store at SHOT, who duck and run in shame, thinking I was one of the customers who got taken, though I wasn't.
