70 rounds of Hornady factory ammo. No bolt provided, ordered a Type 2 bolt from the Tactical Ammunition folks that were recommended by BHW. Barrel is a 264LBC Type 2 1x9 (stamped on the barrel). Bolt was stamped "MPI" from the testing I assume. Other than that there was no indication of the source on the bolt or packaging. The failure was typical of AR bolt failures...the lug next to the extractor broke and locked the gun up tight.

Called TA, they are sending a replacement and a call tag for the broken bolt. Said they had a batch that appeared to have been over hardened to point of being brittle.

I appreciate the good service.

Great, wonder how there going to notify the other buyer's rather than people damage there barrel extensions on jammed metal in them.

Just talked to Frank they are going to use 9130 and he already has a customer that has requested 9310.

That customer would be us. We ordered 200 bolts from them first shipment.

It's going to be a few weeks at least. Maybe 3 or 4 to do all the processes, especially starting from scratch. Then testing a few hundred rounds but that is the fun part... and should go pretty quick to do that but then re-checking them for stress cracks and so on. Not just manufacture them and sell, a little QC and R&D but were in good hands.

You don't want a Tactical Ammunition issue of, oh they were over hardened and brittle....

No orders yet from us individuals. Precision Firearms ordered 200 from Maxim, and Maxim has other builder customers interested and thinks he has commitments for 2,000-3,000. After the search for materials and a few trial runs, and testing, I believe they will open it up for ordering when everyone is satisfied they have a quality product. Maybe another 3-4 months. That is my "SWAG".

Do we have a single POC for this venture? I have noticed a lot of people calling him since his phone number was posted. Sorry, I was one of them, but I only called once and that was two weeks ago. I just don't want him to be distracted by many questions from many people when he needs to coordinate materials and supervise his workers. He is a fine gentleman and has a terrific stories and is willing to share them. I believe a few members know him very well, and perhaps if the information flow and updates can be channeled through a single source, it make things easier for all concerned. Especially when it gets so where we are GTG for ordering. So far we are looking at $65 for a bolt, right? Was it mentioned that there may be BCG's available too? Anybody have info on the cost?

I talked to Frank yesterday and the materials for the bolts are on order. Production begins next week. I keep checking this post and will let you know what he has going on but as far as buying them I think it is best to go direct to him once he has them on hand. No middle man will be needed for shipping or receiving your payments. Also he ahs the carriers on hand and there around $60. Don't quote me on that because if we get a bunch with the bolt's, he might have a package price to include the cam pin, gas keys and everything to provide one part. He will let me know soon and I can forward the info.

Be back in touch, just waiting for him to do his work, don't want to bother him so just sit tight and details will follow.

I found a guy that manufactures AR parts out in Lake Havasu, Arizona called Maxim Firearms. I'm using there carriers in both my Grendel's. They make 6.8spc and 5.56mm bolts for various builders now but not currently Grendel. They've made carrier groups for six years and have made Grendel in the past for a couple builders. They used to make BCG's for Bushmaster when it was in Maine in the pre Windham Weapons days. The shop said they will start making Grendel bolts if we can get 25 buyers. The price will be 75 bucks a bolt and will take a month to fill the order. PM your name and i'll start adding you to a list. When we get 25 buys i'll start collecting the funds. We need at least 25 buyers for them to start the order.

Xcounty, I know you started this with Maxim and posted the price and all but he doesn't want any money up front and price is not set. Cost is still up in the air but as I just posted, we might have everyone just deal directly with him. TBD

I'm not trying to hijack your find/post but I have also used him in the past but this never materialized. I have sent him my AA Bolt and been in touch with him when he has new updates. If you want to be the POC feel free but I will post as I speak to him also.

Price is still not set but he will not gouge us, he's a great source of a great product so he might pop in the forum once he has time.
