Great idea!

That's not all bad. Many can't keep to the facts and then get very "emotional". Sometimes it's nice to go to a forum and just chat, rifles and hunting stuff.
I will admit, seeing what some post on politics, makes me wonder. I always had a simple veiw of America. Freedom and opportunity, I do think I'm in the minority.

When American shooters can't handle disagreement and conflict, we have another strong indicator about the high prevalence of the politically-correct feminized male.

Forum sites can do what they like but I am glad the Grendel Forum allows discussion of 2nd ad issues. It was through this site members were notified and help stop an individual from banning young hunters from training with AR type rifles in the Hunter safety program in my state including Grendels. The moderators have done an excellent job keeping the discussion civil. It is important to keep abreast with all firearm issues including the 2nd ad. If people are not aware of what is going on this could turn into the remember the day's when we had firearms forum.

I think sites like this one and AR15.com and the like are good places for topics that directly deal with the subject of the forum. It helps inform users and allows discussion of thoughts, debates, and even helps arm some with valid points to use when debating others. The rules should not ban the topic of guns and 2nd Amendment which directly affects each of its members, but ban the members who can't handle the debate and take it to levels that shouldn't be broached.
It's pretty sad when a gun forum decides to ban discussions on the 2nd amendment that directly affects each member and their rights. Just pathetic. It is actually reflective of the gun debate and it's politics. A horrible crime with a gun is committed by a few people so politicians (mostly democrats) want to ban all people from owning the type of weapon used heinous crime. So all the law abiding gun owners are affected and can't have said type of weapon. In the same vein, Snipers Hide is acting like democrats. A few members can't behave and have an informed debate but drag threads into p!ssing contests and thrash others, so Snipers Hide decides to ban discussion all together. So it hurts the forum rule abiders that enjoy the political discussion instead of the ones that were rule breakers.

The big thing about political discussion that is polite while still being forthright is the airing of not only views but often nuggets of information that may not have been widely known and it is this sharing of information that is not always (or very often) diseminated on the msm that gives us (advisedly) a fighting chance to hold to the normalityof tradition and common sense.
Montana's example above is just one issue where a political forum has had beneficial input into countermanding flawed policy.

The other problem is that many gun owners tend towards the libertarian side. And many libertarians tend to not have learned how to play well with others. They act like a bunch of hardshell baptists (they know the truth and the rest of us are "sinners").

We are all Libertarians to a degree but there has to be reasonable laws for the citizenry.

However, if my actions don't violate another individuals corresponding or preceding God given unalienable rights the government has no business dictating my actions. I believe our Unalienable Rights were written into the Constitution in an order of precedence. What I mean by that is the God given Right to one's Life supersedes all other rights. The God given Right of Individual Liberty supersedes another individual's God given Right to the Pursuit of Happiness.

It's also easy to have internet trolls whose intent is to shut down speech come onto forums and place certain comments that make the whole forum look like kooks, so that moderators will shut down free exchange of ideas.
I kinda lean to keeping the Grendel Forum a technical one, where the main reason we are attracted to it is to exchange ideas about the cartridge, the AR15, and other firearms chambered in it. That said, I choose to comment or post things regarding politics, history, and infringements on the Bill of Rights because I feel very strongly about those issues. The last thing I want is for people to be driven away because they were offended by political commentary when they came to the site for technical information about the 6.5 Grendel, AR15, etc.

Just remember, we are a nation of the offended. Anything you say and do will be held against you. I am a member of the other forum and do not post an opinion because of the attacks others get. I saw on a forum where this guy bought an item with rebate sticker removed and he figured the people were collecting rebate items. This guy was ridiculed as a whiner, but it made me buy from reputable dealer to get rebate. His post was helpful to me. I do not see any of this kind of ridicule on the Grendel. The latest events in DC might have a lot to do with that move also.

"...act like a bunch of hardshell baptists (they know the truth and the rest of us are "sinners")."
If it wasn't for the Andover Baptists you would not have the separation of church and state here. As for freedom of speech, and the right to bear arms, ditto the Presbyterians and other Christian founders, so tread lightly around that one. When you know the truth (on any matter), and won't move, there's nothing wrong with that. When you are unable to debate it without malice, then you are in violation... and IMHO, indicates that your grasp on the truth is unsure. No, I'm not a Hardshell. Just a Baptist. And a sinner. I'm not offended by that, so don't worry about it, I get that kind of thing stuffed in my face just about every day.

'and...
I learn a lot from the 'hide, mainly from the regular dudes. But I understand that their business is less profitable if it gets clogged with constant brawls. I think part of the problem stems from a thing that was proffered many years ago in a book called "The Doctrine of Hell", which circulated among folks like me. It claimed that many folks that opt law enforcement, EMT, security, military higher leadership and other such carrers or volunteer work do so because there they are much more free to assert dominance without fear of resistance. 'And when resisted, have a very, very low threshold of tolerance. Support info was given. 'So you probably guessed my point... Please don't go there as if I'm anti (any of those areas of employment). I've had Sunday school students join the Troopers, one is a Ranger, and have one son in 82nd Airborne and has given a limb for us all. I'm just anti-malicious brat. I guess the the leadership at the 'hide does have the right to tell me (and other folks) that when we are in their house we are not allowed to speak about certian things. But wow...how ironic. I rather see them kick out people that generate the strife than gag everyone else. That's the Liberal's solution. But, that is their enterprise, their businees, their income, likely is the best business model, and is their right.

From bow shot:
"When you know the truth (on any matter), and won't move, there's nothing wrong with that. When you are unable to debate it without malice, then you are in violation... and IMHO, indicates that your grasp on the truth is unsure." This is the root of the problem with debates. It is what frustrates me about liberals when talking about conservatives, they ridicule and call them names like racists or nazi's so they can dismiss them. They generally do not debate on facts. This happens a lot of times in political topics on forums. Also bow shot, we are grateful for the sacrifices that your son has made for this country and I'm sorry that sacrifice was such a high price. Best wishes to you and your son.

Add my THANK YOU to your son too.

Bowshot, thank your son for his sacrifice and I thank your family for the constant sacrifices you will make indefinitely.
We lost one kid in my Battalion to an RPG attack in 2003, and another lost both his legs in the same attack. I don't know where he is now, but I wonder how his life has been changed because of that event. What I like about the Grendel Forum is that people generally maintain a high standard of conduct in debate, without resulting to some of the things I see on other forums, but I also think that has a lot to do with the technical nature of the forum. |
