Since you mention hunting, I'll mention a funny email from one of my former classmates yesterday. He's organizing a pig hunt at his ranch and, in discussing day v. night hunting, I sent some pix of some piggies harvested using thermal. His response? "Are those hogs or hamsters?" I nearly split my sides laughing.
We all need alot more laughs. Do you turkey hunt?

When I get frustrated I just take a look at LRRPF52's finished cerakote rifle . It calms me ....no excites me ....no makes me envious....no maybe it's lust..... oh sh!# now I'm frustrated again.
I love to eat turkey, but I have never hunted them. Never had a neighbor to teach me the ropes.

Yeah turkey calling isnt easy, im adequate at best.
It is not unusual for us to run into rafters of turkeys ignoring us when offroading, but that hasn't happened during hunting season. Same with pronghorn. Funny how that works.

How do you think I feel? That's bwaites' rifle I did for him, while mine are mostly just single-color FDE sticks. I really wanted to keep it, but I think there's a commandment somewhere that says:
"Thou shalt not covet thine neighbor's rifle, nor his optics, nor his custom finish."

George W. Bush lied to us about Iraq, and started an unnecessary war that caused more American deaths than 9/11. He also established secret prisons around the world, where inmates were tortured.
George H. W. Bush banned the importation of military-style semi-auto rifles.
Ronald Reagan sold weapons to Iran to fund a covert war against Nicaragua. He also banned production of machine guns for civilians.
Richard Nixon gave us Watergate. And during his reign, unarmed students were massacred by National Guard troops.

I empathize with you in lamenting many of the changes that have occurred over the years. As a teenager in the late-1950s and early-1960s, I was quite content with the way things were then, and very dismayed by a number of things that happened since then.
As somebody once said, the only thing that's constant is change. You can bemoan change, and occasionally you can slow it down, but it's extremely unlikely you can prevent it altogether, let alone reverse it.

Ah yes, but each of those was a singular event. Lamentable, yes. BUT...the current administration is systmatically dismantling the American way of life. None of those individual steps above did so.
And if you are referring to George W.'s statements about WMD's, they were based upon CIA and NSA reports that were seen by Democratic leaders as well, and that the UN also believed to be credible. In fact, a big part of the Iraqi invasion was based upon Saddams own statements about his intended use of WMD's and the fact that he had already used Chemical and Biological agents in his war with Iran and on the Kurds. The belief that he would use them again was more than credible.
You seek escape from pain. We seek the achievement of happiness. You exist for the sake of avoiding punishment. We exist for the sake of earning rewards. Threats will not make us function; fear is not our incentive. It is not death that we wish to avoid, but life that we wish to live. - John Galt

Colin Powell relayed information from the CIA to the world about WMD in Iraq. They had to craft it in a way that would not focus on the WMD's that we had been selling to Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War, which we later learned were smuggled to Syria starting in 1998. Even so, we did find remains of chemical weapons and manufacturing centers for WMD, and Saddam drew on the perception that he had WMD to intimidate the region willfully. It's very simplistic to categorize the Iraq pretext to war as a lie and blame Bush for it, but it does fit the marxist media template of being extremely disgruntled about not being able to get Al Gore elected via massive voter fraud. Imagine what the official story would have been regarding 9/11 if Al Gore had been President.
Yes, George H. W. Bush did preside over the ATF extra-constitutional decision to ban importation of military-style semi autos.
Ronald Reagan did not sell weapons to Iran to fund the formerly overt war in Nicaragua, George H. W. Bush/Oliver North/William Secord did, without Reagan's knowledge. Guess who Reagan didn't endorse as the Republican nominee in 1988 for President? Reagan and Bush were about as far apart ideologically as could be, and ran against each other in the 1980 primaries. Bush is the one who called Reagan's economic policies "voodoo economics". He was literally one of the last people Reagan wanted anywhere near his cabinet, but was left with 2 choices at the convention in Detroit in 1980, and basically had to train his gag reflex not to work when his committee staff pressured him on Bush. It was either him or Ford, and Ford would have been a disaster.
Republican Presidents have not appointed 2 KKK members to the Supreme Court, racially-profiled patriotic Americans and interned them in prison camps, or presided over the biggest economic crises in US history. It wasn't a Republican President that oversaw the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, and went against the findings of the Rand Corporation to throw tens of thousands of lives wastefully into Indochina in a conventional military approach. I dislike much of both parties, because they tend to resemble each other in many ways once they get together in D.C., but the big D machine has worked extremely hard to transform America more into a Nation governed by principles totally counter to those the Nation was founded on, and they do it often with the help or acquiescence of the RINOs that are the majority in the big R machine.
As far as change goes, there's nothing that will ever compel me to recognize the degradation of our Nation, and simply accept it as destiny without working to counteract the forces of self-servitude. Both political parties are obviously about serving the party interests first, and to hell with the Nation. If you ever spend time in D.C. and see some of the on-goings in our Capitol, you are forced to accept that reality, and it is a bitter one.

The "American way of life" has been continually evolving during the last 200-plus years. I'm sure many of those white males who lived through such changes as the abolition of slavery, and allowing women to vote, viewed them as "dismantling" their way of life.
The notion that there has ever been one "American way of life" is contrary to reality. For as long as this country has existed, there have always been many ways of life, depending upon the particular time period and geographic location.

Perhaps not. However, of prime relevance to the Room 2A sub-forum, Reagan's 1986 ban on machine gun manufacture and Bush's 1989 import ban were the two worst ever violations of the 2nd Amendment, far worse than anything done by this (or any other Democratic) Administration.

As President, Reagan was ultimately responsible for all actions of members of his Administration.

Yes. I have no love for Democratic Presidents. All I was saying is that I don't see how the current President is any worse than his predecessors, regardless of party.

You don't have to accept it as destiny. My point is that you may not be able to prevent it. Just look at all of the changes which have been implemented in the past two centuries. They were all opposed by a portion of the populace, and supported by the remainder. If you (and like-minded individuals) lack sufficient power to stop the changes, they will happen.

I shot at a local Practical shooting match with an ex- South African police man about a month ago. He now lives in Canada. He filled me in on how bad a country can become. Whites are being slaughtered there with out a hint of it in the news. The government is corrupt and living on foreign aid. He said the standard of living is abominable for all races and any whites who could get out did. He predicts when they get there immigration reform in the U.S. we will see the end of all our freedoms we enjoy today because of the new 30 million democratic voters that will be created. He said with the election of "where ever he comes from prez" we have just witnessed the beginning of the end. He said most people in this country don't realize the storm which is about to fall on them. Time will tell.

Reading this string of posts reminds me of arguments I've had with my ex-wife. Her logic also stank. Without going through a couple of hours of research to take this apart point by point, you'll forgive me if I just choose to ignore the cherry picking recitation and address your single salient point.
Yes, the American way of life has always been in flux. We happened upon the world at the right time for it-- when the pace of life began changing in increments of years or decades rather than centuries. And I'm sure that everybody fought to maintain their own, no doubt treasured ways of life. Perhaps you might exert yourself to understand why we might also. Also, while I'm certainly interested to have you liken the way of life we would like to see continue to the desire for the continuation of slavery, I have to wonder at your alcohol intake prior to making that comparison. A healthy dollop of relativism in the ol' cognac, eh? You'll perhaps forgive me if I call you out on that.
BHO has a plan. He wrote about it. Much like Hitler, he told us just what he planned to do well before he set out to do it, and we scoffed, thinking he couldn't possibly mean it. No, I'm not comparing him to Hitler in any other way. Hitler was an up front megalomaniacal bastard who at least had the decency <sic> to wear a fancy uniform to identify his affiliation.
I, for one, don't like BHO's plan. I don't like the way he's going about implementing it. I don't like the way he's trampling everything I hold dear in his dash to accomplish his goals. And I don't like the idea that he and his ilk have managed to so skew the system that we're unlikely to ever peacefully set it right. We need to start facing the fact that he's got the biggest soapbox and he's corrupted the ballot box.
We have a winner! Kudos to OTHER.
The 1986 GCA was largely pro-grun manufacturer protection legislation that Democrats tacked-on an "anti new machinegun manufacture for civilians" amendment to, so it was not the most egregious piece of gun legislation. 1934 and 1968 were the most egregious assaults of the 2A, in addition to the racist State Democrat bills that banned ownership or possession of firearms by slaves and freed slaves in the South.
1934 was an overt assault on 2A in that it restricted the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms. 1968 Federalized the firearms businesses so that only D.C. was the issuing authority on whether or not a business could engage in the business of transferring what limited types of arms were left over after 1934. LBJ was President during that legislation, while socialist FDR was President in 1934. Socialists understand power, and do not tolerate the people having it, therefore, they work extremely hard to erode the power of the people to protect themselves because socialists see that as an exclusive function of government.
Obama has also done things that no US President has done before overtly, and that is to blatantly trample over the division of powers delineated to the separate and co-equal branches of our government. He did this by declaring the Senate "out of session" after illegally appointing members to the NLRB without Senate consent, and the courts have ruled against his dictator-like violations of the Constitution. His actions are truly unprecedented for a White House. Additionally, he has committed US Forces to an undeclared war against an ally in the war on terror, and has evoked executive privilege to hide his White House's suspicious activities related to overseeing thousands of weapons transferred to murderous narco-terrorists in Mexico under the direction of Eric Holder's ATF.
