Grendelized hogs... and other critters

Had a good weekend at a friends place over the weekend.

4 hogs total (2 w/ Grendel)

Running head shot We hunted from trails on a Polaris or on foot so they all were running. More challenging and fun that way.

My buddy and I shot this one with our .223 SBR's. Bastard soaked up at least 10 hits, including one in the head, before I caught him between the eyes.

1 Jackrabbit with subsonic Grendel. He was hiding behind a cactus so I picked a spot where I thought he was and shot through it. DRT.

Yeah, ideally it wouldn't take 10 hits for something to die. Especially when that thing can hurt you.

Fine shooting. Here in Georgia Turkeys can only be hunted with shotguns or muzzle loading riffles.

Thanks. Yep, 3 of them in her and not far from popping . The black sow had 2 or 3 piglets but we didn't get a shot on them.

The 223 part really wasn't the problem by itself. I've killed many, many hogs with .223 but usually with bullets better suited for them and deliberate
shots.. In this case we were riding around looking for smaller critters and were loaded with 55 grain Vmaxes. That combined with the fact we jumped him out of a creek and had to take less than ideal shots to slow him down got his adrenaline pumping. Still got the job done quickly though. The event happened all in about 15 seconds. That's why we hunt with modern semi-automatic sporting rifles.

Yeah that is a pretty quick kill then. I'm the type that wants a bigger round to be sure to drop them quick. But it appears you guys were not exactly planning on a hog hunt. Very good shooting though.
I'm not really a hunter, but I think most hunters feel like myself in that they respect the wildlife and what it brings to nature and want the kills to be humane and fast.

Glad you guys were able to thin the ever growing hog heard in Texas. Some friends of ours are getting some hogs around Eagle Mtn Lake in a fairly populated area.

Nice work TX. The blood issue is not a problem to most on here. The Grendel-or larger cal. is the better option- as I've been told, for hoggin. Man, I wanna come on down there..
