Neck of casing flat spot?

So I got to shoot my Grendel for the first time the other day and when I picked up the casings the neck of the casing was flat on one side. I don't plan on reloading yet but is this normal? I was shooting wolf mp ammo

I'm assuming you mean the mouth of the neck, not the whole neck?

If so, its usually caused by the case mouth striking the brass deflector, or by hitting concrete when it hits the ground. If it is every case, its almost always the brass deflector on the upper, and can be reduced by putting a small piece of the fuzzy side of velcro on the brass deflector.

I guess I didn't look that closely. It was dirt so definitly not the concrete. I will have to shoot a few more rounds and keep them this time. perhaps take a picture of them as well. I didn't want to shoot many rounds as I don't have the scope or mounts yet for the gun.

Just remember that firing a semi-auto is a somewhat violent event. A portion of the gas is used to eject the fired cartridge and the deflector changes the trajectory of the spent cartridge as it leaves the rifle. My Grendel AR cases show a more pronounced flat spot than my .223 AR cases. But the G also has more powder in it so it's ejection is more severe. It is a natural byproduct of shooting and the Velcro will definitely help.

Wait? You are not keeping your brass? Heck you need to keep it and sell it here. There are a ton of us that would like to get their hands on your brass. The odds that someone who picks them up at the range actually needing them is slim to none. Help us out man!

I was planning on keeping it but I thought with the damaged neck (first high powered semi auto) that it was runinned. Only about 11 rounds were not kept. I will keep them and sell them if they are not bad. I just saw them and thought ohoh what did I do wrong.

You can, or just buy the stuff that has sticky on the back.

The stuff I use comes in a roll of like 8 feet, 1 inch wide.

Watch this video about 1:40 or so in, you'll see an AR without a brass deflector, and you'll see the brass pivoting and hitting the rifle, which will cause those flat spots.

A Nascar racer is barely a Chevy, Ford or Dodge, but they still get to call them one. lol!

I wouldn't hold my breathe on the $600 range. A look at his site doesn't show anything under $1200. A guy on another forum once said the only way he would pay more than $500 for an AK was if Joseph Stalin had personally owned it.

The AK under $600 in 6.5G could be done, the problem is that there would have to be a lot of them purchased to justify the effort.

A stamped receiver could be used and would be an excellent choice done correctly, I would modify the magwell opening and weld on an AR style magwell.

In fact the bbl could be made to be a "thread in" instead of pinned.
