What do I need?

I am very interested in building a Grendel.
I actually want to do it as a project with my son. I thought it would be a fun thing to do together.

So far I have a lower and the lower parts kit.
I purchased a 6.5 Grendel magazine.
I understand that a standard upper will work.


What pieces are different beyond the barrel.
carrier, bolt, gas tube????, are they specific parts to the Grendel or is it using another caliber as the base pieces

I know it's impossible to find stuff right now, I have put a notify me tag on everything Midway has listed.
Are there any other dealers who have that option?

First my sympathy for all northern Calif. residents. To build a Grendel all you need is the Grendel bolt,barrel and magazine. Make sure your bolt matches the barrel as some manufacturers use different bolt depths and mixing different manufactures bolts and barrels could cause head space and functioning problems .If you are building a carbine you probably should use a H-1 buffer. The barrel nut should be torqued to a min of 65 lbs because of the Grendels recoil. Everything else should be standard for any 5.56 build. Check out the other threads on this forum if you need more advice and opinions. I'm not sure what legal requirements are needed for Calif residents when building a semi auto. I think you need a push pin mag release button on your rifle so make sure you know the laws of your state before you start your build. DS arms had bcg and other parts when I last looked. Bravo Company has parts from day to day and I can recommend them for being a quality manufacturer so I would check them out daily .

Midway has Grendel barrels and bolts in stock at the moment.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I saw the Midway notification, but I was wanting a longer barrel I believe what they had in stock was the 16" barrels.
I wanted the 20-24 inch range. It was hard not to plop down the credit card when I got that email though.
