If ‘Assault Weapons’ Are Bad Why Does DHS Want to Buy 7,000 of Them for ‘Personal Def

The Department of Homeland Security is seeking to acquire 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons” (PDW)

While they are trying to take and ban our guns, DHS busy trying to buy 7000 select fire models for themselves. If they are so evil while is homeland security buying these for self defense? They can use the evil black guns for their self defense but we can't even have the civilian semi autos. Why don't they take Joe's advise and use a double barrel shotgun. Apparently that is a much more effective gun for personal defense..... unless you need more than 2 shells... then you’re just out of luck.

Because the DHS is an Agency that existed before Obama, and they would be wanting them regardless of who is currently Prez? Also they don't make Legislation, they mostly do what they are told?

Either way though--- I definitely support your right to possess one (or two or three...).

I also would support legislation holding LE to the exact same weapon standards as "mere" citizens. Good for the Goose/Gander and all. That's politico stuff also though. Legislative and not normal executive.

From the Solicitation: "3.12.2 The overall length of the firearm shall not exceed 20 inches with the stock fully retracted and/or folded." Hunh????? It's gonna suck then. Even a Colt SCW is 22.81".

ETA: Posting kind of dizzy tonight (sleep deprivation). I'm additionally of the opinion that most Federal LE should take a major haircut, and be reduced drastically in size (my branch included). Some Agencies should be eliminated completely....

FWIW I doubt it. 7,000 weapons is a drop in the bucket compared to the numbers of FLEOs currently sworn....

But I was told that military weapons of war don't belong on the streets of America? Who should I believe? The same people told me that these types of weapons aren't for defense, but for killing mass amounts of people as quickly as possible.

"Assault weapons" are semi-auto (according to the govt') the weapons used in the military are select fire and are NOT on the streets. These politicians aren't even paying attention to themselves.

According to the media and the government, guns in the hands of good guys make the country safer is a bunch of crazy talk, more guns equal more murders according to them. Couple that with the realization that there are thousands upon thousands of "assault weapons" on the streets where they don't belong... It's a wonder any of us are even alive to be talking about this!!!
