Man I dont know about this statement. Civilians do die in war, they always do. I actually think the military is being as careful as they can, to careful in my opinion. Orders like dont shoot unless fired upon and so forth. As far as im concerned if you look like enemy and you got a rifle in your hand youre game.
As for drone strikes (thank the President) or artillery, well the people doing that are miles away and they cant always see the civilians there. Does it happen? Yes. Do I blame them? You don't have to give any orders to kill Americans if the people you would order are the first to be targeted by the cartels, who are way better trained and experienced than 99% of US LEO's. You have to remember that Clinton started sending SF to train the Mexican military in CQB and other advanced light infantry tactics back in the early 1990's. Well put sneaky one. To understand human nature one only has to look at history. The same failings and and mistakes always seem to reappear with every new generation. Lessons learned are soon forgotten. The founding fathers understood the importance of division of power, a lesson lost on this generation. There is always some group or evil little piece of sh@# that always lurks in the back ground vying for opportunity of power. When you have a world struggling for limited resources and growing populations, fear and envy become the tools for these want to be dictators to grow. It is the constant struggle of good and evil.

Glad that you notice their claimed versus actual loyalties. While much of your analysis is inarguable, LRRPF52, this jingoism is quite arguable, especially among those who believe that there are objective standards of right and wrong. Freedom for whom?
