Golden powder would be a better bet for semi-autos. Burns much cleaner and has more power. Of course, it's more dangerous to make, but que sera sera.

I have never heard the term "Golden Powder." Can you edify us?

Golden powder is a pyrotechnic powder composed of potassium nitrate sodium bicarbonate and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) as opposed to black powder which is potassium nitrate charcoal and sulfur but nitrocellulose powder is not inherently difficult to make either just mix equal parts nitric acid and sulfuric acid and soak cellulose aka wood fiber when you dry it out it will explode
