The elites will always be treated different than the peseants. In the USA you did not have to be a royal to succeed like in some cultures. This is about population and people control. Gun control has to be accomplished first. Think how bad the control freaks wil be when completely unleashed. No more salt on the table, no large sodas or whatever they choose for you. Right now the consumer determines what products fail or succeed. Remember the sight of empty shelves in the Soviet run grocery stores. Now our government is trying to choose the winners and losers in the private sector. Things could get very ugly. Elections do hold consequences and it will tell whether the Federal government even gets a budget let alone one with deficit reduction or even more borrowing.

The starting point for any debate about private ownership of arms is where both sides can agree, then the whole debate becomes quite transparent. So where is it?

Power: Both sides understand that ownership/possession of arms equals power in the hands who hold them, pure and simple. He who holds the guns, holds the power. Either you support the individual's right to power, or the state. That is where the debate fragments.

If asked why do you need a weapon of war ask them which weapon of war should we have? Every weapon or firearm used was a weapon of war at one time. The bolt action, revolver, lever action ,rifled barrels, percussion caps, single shot etc. Then ask the anti-gunner which antiquated firearm would make them feel comfortable civilians owning. How old would the civilian firearm have to be to be legitimate. After this type of stupid quizzing explain the second amendment and the division of power. Like I said before we have the argument and don't forget to mention the 56 million people exterminated in the last century by their governments after they were disarmed. It is the same old story as LRRPF52 said, it is about people control and power, nothing else.

Listening to the talking heads on the news shows kinda gives you an insight on the simplistic ideas held by non gun folks. They grab on to talking points like "weapons of war", "high capacity magazines", "semi automatic weapons" and just cannot understand that almost any psyco could walk into a school with a machete and probably kill just as many people. The whole point is that our society has too few guns.

Jeff Cooper put it like this, It's a given that there are more good guys than bad guys right? So if the good guys go around armed what happens to the bad guys?

Ive always thought the human body a was very serious weapon, as a matter of fact alot of us dont need a weapon. But having the ability physically to fight or if you had your weapon of choice doesnt mean we would use it unless we had no other choice. Damn people were the good guys.
The anti gun people just cant comprehend that A thumb is a weapon, a pencil, a skillet, a bar of soap in a sock, a wrench, a car. Man i could go on forever.

I personally was in Philly/ nj/ny for hurricane sandy, in 31 days of driving all over indie not see one box of ammo, let alone a gun. Working with folks from Texas and discussing th gun control up there made me nervous, this was before the school shooting. It's crazy how people for about what the constitution says and that they would allow this to happen, then again the majority up there are who put our president in office twice. It starts to make sense, they are also heavily unionized. Whole I agree unions had their place, their time has come and gone. Just like the auto unions that led to bailouts they are driving costs up and sending jobs out of the country, further weakening the economy. A standard water heater In the south can be installed for around $500 up there it is $1500. Not so different was the housing market crash in 2008, however if we gun toting Americans survive this wave with out any serious legation passed we should feel lucky and pounce once things quiet down. This may take months or years, but the gun industry is reaping the benefits now which may lead to some rapid advancements and a swing of the supply vs demand chain in our favor. I guess time will only tell.
