Cheaper than Dirt to RESUME firearms sales

As I mentioned in the other thread about Cheaper than Dirt, I sent an email to them protesting thier suspension of online firearms sales. I just returned from an outing to the Everglades, and found this in my inbox-

Cheaper Than Dirt! recently announced that it was temporarily suspending online sales of firearms pending a review of its order processing and procedures. Well-known for its ability to process and ship orders within 24 hours, online sales have skyrocketed to a point where it may take up to 72 hours for firearms and other items to ship.

"In light of recent events, we believe it is prudent to review our policies and procedures to ensure we can continue to provide the products and firearms our customers demand," said Chief Operations Officer Roberta Wilson. "We will resume online sales once we update our process and continue as we have always done by shipping firearms only to FFL dealers."

Ms. Wilson closed with, "As a long-time supporter of the Second Amendment, we will continue to serve the needs of the firearms community while ensuring our unsurpassed level of quality and customer service."

Not sure how much of this was due to people like some of us here on the forum writing in and expressing outrage and a need to take our business elseware, but something turned them around.

LOL! This is the company that raised the price of Pmags from 14.99 to 28.99 to 58.99 in 2 days, right? The same company that is trying to charge 999.99 for 1000 rounds of 5.56 ammo that was $350.00 a couple days ago?

It sounded pretty dubious to me when i got that very email myself. Set aside the repugnant price gouging...i immediately blocked them from sending me any more e-mail after that. Good luck with that business model...pander to people who will literally never do business with you...ever. LOL

So they showed their true colors, customers took notice, stopped buying and promised not to give them business anymore, and they realized, "Oh crap!" and now it was just because of delays caused by demand?

Interesting...Before this little online gun sales snafu, I placed a large order from CTD including a case + of Hornady 123g Amax ammo, which they had the best price on anywhere I could find. Everything in that order came in last week, 4 days from placing the order IIRC. The very same day, I placed 2 orders to Alexander Arms (1) for 3 mags and (1) a redding reloading die. The reloading die came today. The mags? 2 more days until they are scheduled to arrive.

Everything in Cheaper than dirt's order was correct - about 12 different items or so (the ammo being its own item) and it came from 2 different warehouses. I'm not going to join the CTD is a bad place bandwagon. I have got nothing but outstanding service from them anytime I have ordered from them. Plus, their prices of items I have purchased there have been the lowest on the internet. I have never had to make a return or complaint and service is speedy. How can I possibly complain?

I too have never had problems with CTD until they decided to take advantage of this situation and show their greed, but if you want to keep doing business with a back stabbed your choice. I have pride and integrity which is lacking in most of our society.

I fail to see where anyone stabbed me in the back. I doubt their intent was to halt gun sales because they wanted to stop selling guns. I suspect their problem was not being able to handle everyone calling at once wanting a gun after this recent event. I suspect they got a giant increase in order traffic nearly immediately after - because everyone knows, the oh so wise leadership is going to pursue a gun ban. What happens to guns and gun parts during a gun ban? CHA CHING - everyone is placing an order to invest. They were more than likely overwhelmed and possibly even wondering where they are going to be able to keep items in stock in large enough quantities.

I can't speak for their intent, but I don't read it like it was a deliberate stall of the marketplace for "gun control", etc.

Midway didn't raise pmag prices to nearly $60 or ammo to $1000 just sayin

I'm not sure where yall are hearing some of this BS from, but I just checked thier site, and it is nothing even close to what some of you are claiming. Prices have gone up since Obama got reelected just like last time, no shocker there, but you can still get 840rds of M196 tracer for 350 dollars, and PMAGS, which are out of stock, are listed for between 11 and 30 dollars, in 20 and 30 round configurations. Most of the .223/5.56mm is out of stock, has been for a while. they do have 500rd cases of 7.62x39mm for 135-140 dollars. Lot of that stuff is out of stock as well. Thank God I bought some when I did! Just be careful about spreading rumors, especially if you haven't checked them out yourself. I've had very good business with CTD in past years. So long as they stand by the gun owners, I'll continue to do business.

SS109 surplus 1000 rounds was listed at 999.99, PMags were 59.99. There are lots of people that saw those numbers on the web.

Buy as you like, but remember that many of us saw it, and many of us will remember it!

I could be wrong here, but I'm getting a vibe that you didn't read the Arfcom threads or CTD's facebook page?

THIS is what they actually did to their website:


It had nothing to do with updating squat (except jacking their non-gun prices above even honest scalper levels). They exclaimed at length about how progun they were (the TV ads were incessant!), and the second the media reviled guns in an emotionally charged moment they turned coat and said "CheaperThanDirt.com doesn't sell firearms." You'll note it doesn't say anything like "experiencing technical difficulties", "too backlogged", etc....

I think you may have missed a large chunk of the story, but if not... Well everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, so if that is the case instead I'll just strongly, but politely, disagree...

The "scalper extreme" prices were most definitely there as Bill stated. I wish I had grabbed screen shots of them.

I personally hope to see a "Going out of business sale" instead. Soon!

They rolled the shyster prices back to normal when they either:

A.) Ran out of stock

or

B.) Figured they should mark everything as out of stock, apply some verbal judo, let the rage die down a bit, and then parcel them out at shyster prices later.

The 20 rounders weren't in near as much demand, so they didn't make it up to sixty bucks (as far as I know) like the 30 rounders did.

Here was a 1000 rounds of M855 for the bargain price of seven hundred bucks. If I click the link it shows the listing without a price, but I did find that page before. I couldn't find the nine hundred buck page, but it was there also!

They have been pulling this crap for years. I'm glad this is finally becoming well known. I doubt they will go away but I will be happy if they do. Please spread the word!!! We need to stop supporting businesses like this. There are plenty of good businesses that actually have good deals.

While I'm a true capitalist, I support a business's right to charge the amount they choice for a product. I also support my own right to boycott a business that I feel is trying to swindle me with the outrageous prices.

I'm torn with boycotting the brick and mortar CTD...they are allegedly not connected, but one really never knows. I've bought all my Glocks from them, all but one at the $420 LE/MIL price. Most of their guns are just slightly above the going rate at local gun shows and close to Cabela's. Their ammo prices, however, are out of this world.
