I have a special needs adult son and I can tell you the mental health system in this country is lacking poorly. Now I don't know that it is any better any where else and I am not complaining about the services his does get but I can see where someone who does not have the family support my son has could fall the the cracks very,very easily. I feel if we spent more time, money (of course) and energy on folks with mental health issues (and there are probably more than we know) the pay off in the long run would be great. My son has gone to chef school through the local special ed program and this allows him to work some, not at a level he can support himself but he can work.

It's unfortunate to use these terrible catastrophes to further one parties agenda at the expense of the real underlying issues.

The underlying mental health issues are huge.

I run a family medical practice, and finding care for a juvenile is almost impossible unless you are in a major metropolitan area. I've had patients who I ended up sending 200 miles to get care.

Many of the issues could be improved with better parenting skills, but that is not the whole issue, and we don't have a parental support system to teach those skills.

We made a huge mistake closing mental health facilities when we developed psychotropic meds, because there is a real percentage of people who MUST be treated long term in facility for their safety and the safety of others. Unfortunately, we don't have anywhere close to the required space any longer. So we give them drugs and wait for them to make a mistake big enough to send them to prison, which has turned into our largest population of mentally ill people. (There are a significant number of prisoners who fake mental illness to get the freedom that even one visit a week or a month to a psychiatrist offers.)

Its already been confirmed that the Bushmaster wasnt even used in the attack and you see there still pinning it on the gun that didnt even do the killing. This is so sick. First it was the object that an individual uses that at fault. Now guns that werent even used by the killer are at fault lol. It was in his truck. My gosh they are really reaching.

It was said ,"hell is the complete lack of reason". Welcome to hell. I just listened to Bill O'Reilly claim we don't need to have assault weapons like the AK-15 on the Fox channel. I read that as well but in the press conference with the chief medical examiner who was the complete Hollywood stereotype weirdo, he stated the the majority of wounds were inflicted by a rifle. So was the Bushy in the car as has been reported? Or was there another weapon aside from the glock and the sig?

All the reports i see now are stating that he had the rifle on him. The story changes from hour to hour and day to day. We probably wont ever know the truth.
