Okay we have a problem. My brothers grendel has. A live round stuck in the chamber. We shot 18 of the very same hand load and no hiccups. The carrier wants to come back but the bolt won't let it took out take down pins and can get apart that way. What do I do

When I had a round stuck in the chamber, I pushed both takedown pins through and slid the upper forward enough to remove it from the lower, then I was able to get the charging handle and bolt out.

And if that does not work, can you remove the buffer tube, spring and the buffer retaining pin to take the pressure off of the bolt?

thats my problem i cant get the lower from the upper there is some play but i cant get it off

nm yall i got it....to a big open ended wrench and placed it on the charging handle and smacked it good a time or two she come out

thanks kbarnes for the quick replies i appreciate it....while my little bro wasnt watching i smacked around his gun a little and got it out....cant wait ot post a pic of my shots todayl...my handloads sucked but i got the best group o have ever shot with factory hornady then the stuck round soured the mood so we left...hes happy now though!

Two things to check on reloads getting stuck in chamber. Your bullets maybe seated to long getting stuck in lands. Other possibility the brass is to long and needs trimmed. Not all chambers are the same and a round may work in 1 barrel but not another. I loaded some brass before I got my case trimmer. The 6.5 Grendel spec from Hornady shows max brass length 1.516 and trim length 1.506. On one of my barrels brass which was longer than 1.516 will function the other barrel you end up rounds not going into battery.

I would bet the shoulder is not pushed back enough on your reloads. I can usually pull the bullet out of the case if its stuck in the rifling.

Need to learn the "Mortar" method. While at the range, muzzle in safe direction (45 degrees down range, etc). Collapse the stock if needed. Firmly bring the but down onto the ground or firm bench while pulling on the charger handle. Usually easier to do with two people, just be safe with the muzzle.

Much less stress and trauma than beating on the CH with a hammer/wrench. Inertia is your friend, and you usually do not have to slam it at all. It's not the speed, it's the quickness of the stop that makes it work.

+1 for the mortaring technique. You will damage the charge handle that way. When we see the same problem on AK's, there is the kick-start technique, or take the AK charge handle and aggressively shove the gun down with the charge handle on a tailgate.

Muzzle awareness is most important when doing this. With the AR, use the forward assist to make sure you have the extractor purchased to the case rim, collapse the stock if you have a telescoping stock, and mortar the AR with the heel of the butt, not the toe while pulling on the charge handle.
