black whitetail kill with CZ grendel

i've killed a hog and a coyote with this rifle but this is the first deer. he was spotted by several hunters on the place we hunt. the powers that be decided he needed to go and i was the lucky one to get him. used factory loads(alex arms) with 120 BT's. he was facing me quartering very slightly. the bullet destroyed the shoulder, traveled along the ribs breaking 4 or 5 of them and ended up between the back legs in the guts. total penetration about 3 feet. he ran about 20 yards. never saw a melanistic whitetail before. too bad he wasn't a 10 or 12 point!

Yes good result and it is refreshing to see a bolt Grendel so post as much infor on the little CZ as you have.

thamks for the comments. the rifle started as a cz 527 in 7.62x39 and was rebarreled(20 ") to the grendel. scope is a leupold 2x7 compact in conetrol rings. sorry i dont have a velocity on the factory ammo but i have a handload with the 110 grn gs custom bullet thats going 2689. i haven't used the handload on anything yet. again, thanks

Very cool buck! I agree with you, I wish he'd have had a huge rack to go with that neat color. He'd have made an interesting mount. Still pretty cool nonetheless, and even funner that you whacked him with a Grendel bolt gun.

The only funny thing about Grendel bolt action guns is that so many people don't have one.

I think this is one of those ocasions where a word may have slightly different spellings and mean different things and in this case, I think Variable used the word the way many do now indicating more fun to use rather than funny meaning slightly strange. It is not a word I would use myself in that context, but I have seen it used that way enough times to get the drift in language, as previous generations saw us change words to personalise language for ourselves.

Hee hee, yes I meant "more fun" (as in- even more enjoyable) that he used a bolt gun to do it.

My spelling can be pretty bad when I'm using this infernal ipad though. I have to constantly try to reread everything I type. I can see where someone would have thought I meant "funnier", meaning that it was humorous.LOL

i had this rifle passed down to me from my father so i'm not sure what brand the barrel is but i think it's a douglas. i'll have to check the twist. i really like the rifle. it's boreingly accurate and feeds flawlessly. but then i just like the cz 527 in general...also have 2 converted to 6PPC and my daughter uses one in 7.62x39 and my son has the american in 223. all of them perform great. i'll check the twist and get back to you. if there is any specific info you want just ask and i'll try to get it for you.
