Krebs custom AK in 6.5 Grendel

Even if they did we still wouldn't have to worry too much about their marksmanship with the AK. When you depend on prayer to guide your bullets you don't hit as many targets.

I would guess that it's a simple 7.62x39 necked down to 6.5. If they use the Grendel case, they probably wouldn't be able to feed out of an AK mag due to the difference in case taper. It looks like an AK mag to me. I read an article about this round being shot out of a modified Mini 30 in Australia for kangaroo culling.

I've always wondered what the performance would be like if you were to just neck down a standard 7.62x39mm case. Doing so would allow the easy conversion of several weapon systems with just a barrel change.

Years ago, I talked with Mark Krebbs, about making one of his Krebs 03 for me in 6.5 Grendel and he wasn't interested.

As far as the AK mags not working...... why, not they use the same 7.62x39 parent case? It ends up to be a 7.62x38.....

The straighter walls of the Grendel would have the round being lower in the nose when presented to the chamber. I would think it would be very easy to modify the feed lips and remove some of the curvature of the magazine to accommodate the round.

Maybe Krebs uses an AK74 mag.

Take a standard 7.62x39 and stack it next to a 6.5 Grendel, you will notice the NECK is different NOT the case taper. Put both in your standard AK Magazine....... Hmmm seem to stack the same to me.
I will bet the follower DOES NOT have to be changed.

The Grendel magazine problems have been with modifying AR Magazines where everything is different. Magazine lips, case angle in magazine, and on and on.

That just ain't true. The 7.62x39 case has noticeably more taper than that of 6.5 Grendel. This can be seen in the photo below: 6.5 Grendel at left, and 7.62x39 case (necked-down to make a 6.5x39) at right.

No, they are quite specific that it is 6.5 Grendel, not 6.5x39.

While the different case taper would prevent 6.5 Grendel from stacking properly in, and feeding reliably from, 30-rd AK mags, loading only a few rounds could work (possibly with some slight modifications to the mag).

Note that a low-capacity mag is being used, not a 30-rounder.

Krebs is definitely working with the 6.5 Grendel, not a necked-down 6.5x39 Russian, in both his AK and SIG prototypes. He will need a "Grendelized" AK mag, unless he uses a mag-well conversion that accepts 65G AR mags (which is what is shown by Fortier in his photos of Krebs' AK 65G conversion).
