Hi guys
This isn't a Grendel problem but I thought this is a good group to help me figure something out.
I built two identical AR's for a friend in .223 and they operate perfectly. The problem I have is with the iron sights. Both guns shoot about 12 inches low at 25 yards. I screwed down the front posts as far as they would go, not much change. I took the posts out and ground them down about .11 inches each and that brought the hits up a few inches.
Does this sound like the sights I bought (very inexpensive ones)?

Rail height or gas block height? and where are they mounted?

OK, either the rear sight is to low or the front sight is too high. Understand that the back up iron front sight was designed to be fitted to the barrel, normally on top of a the gas block, and not on a rail on top of a forend. If it were on a gas block, it would be much lower and then you chance shooting way too high but most likely it would be much closer than it is now.
Or, a riser for the rear sight.
These things can become pretty problematic with a guy buying a shorter front sight, only to find it too short. Or a riser, only to find it too tall.
You have a problem that I doubt you will ever get fixed real well but remember that back up iron sights are there as a back up in case his aimpoint or optc get broken. They aren't intended for precision.

They make two heights of front sights. By looking at your rifles you put front sights on a handguard rail with a sight designed to mount on a gas block. There is a difference in height between a gas block rail and the rail on your handguard. I'd probably buy a new front sight for a railed fore end and sell the gas block sight on the equipment exchange or keep it for a later build.

Yep looking at the photos looks like the front sight is to high.
