I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to use one of these uppers with the side charging handle?

Yes I have. The charging handle tends to snag on everything. I would recommend that you just get a regular upper with some kind of an extended charging handle. The warfighter charging handle is the best one I have felt and used so far, it is absolutely fantastic. Plus that would save you about 200 bucks. This is one of those things that looks cool on the shelf, but when fielded....it just sucks. My two cents.

Seems kind of pricey since it doesnt come with the carrier. If your wanting a side charger i would look at the Alexander Arms side charging upper. It comes with a chrome carrier and is very rigid and well made unit.

I've got both the ASA and the AA side chargers. Don't know what kind of Ops gophernuts is running but I've never had issued with my ASA snagging on anything. I use it for running coyotes and as long as the handle is folded in, no problems. The AA is slick too but that big knurled knob can grab things.
Both are billet and thicker and stiffer than milspec forged. IMO if you use any barrel longer than 18" in a heavy profile, the billet is the better choice.
