Announcement regarding Mega Arms Monolithic MTS upper receivers:



We have both good news and also tough news to deliver. So to quickly get the bad news out of the way: we are no longer manufacturing, or offering for sale, our MTS Monolithic upper receivers. This includes sets involving the MTS upper in AR-15 and MATEN. If you are a custom MTS client, please contact us.

You must be wondering why we are taking this step. No, we did not have any safety or quality issues. You already know that our MTS upper is made to our high expectations and has been the pinnacle of the industry since its inception. We recently became aware that a competitor is about to obtain a patent, and we believe that this competitor will assert its patent against us. We have strong defenses, but we are not a large company that can sustain ongoing litigation expenses. Plus we would rather be working on providing a superior replacement.

The good news is that we are working on a new platform that far exceeds anything currently offered in the industry. It will be exactly what you would expect from Mega Arms. We have no specific time frame on when we will be able to start shipping the new platform, but stay tuned for news on that front.

The MTS upper for AR-15 and MATEN has been a huge success for us at Mega Arms, and we are just as disappointed as you are with this decision and change. We convey our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause to you or your customers. We at Mega Arms look forward to our new platform, and believe that it will be a platform that the industry would expect to see from us at Mega Arms!

I had drawings of monolithic upper receivers that I had come up with in 1999 while attending a certain course at Ft. Bragg. I know several guys saw it. When LMT came out with their MRP, I kinda felt scooped. My design also included a 7.62 version with an enlarged ejection port that could also take a 12 GA conversion.

I wonder if LMT is the one who has sent Mega Arms a cease and desist, even though I can't see how anyone with half a brain would be confused about which product is which.

Whoever it is, will they also litigate the issue with Colt, FN (SCAR) and another smaller company that has a monolithic upper receiver on their staple product?

I know of no AR15 manufacturer that has anything remotely like the Mega Monolithic uppers, since Mega uses a barrel nut and special tool that basically functions in a similar manner to a standard AR15 barrel nut.

I know of one Mega retailer who heard that LMT might indeed be a factor. But just hearsay at this point I suppose. Maybe we'll learn more details in time...

I bet it has a lot to do with using the word "Monolithic" more than anything. The LMT design is significantly unique in that it uses a pinch approach to retaining the barrels, with LMT-unique barrel extensions. That pinch method isn't unique to their design when looking at other firearms, such as the German DSR-1, so I really think Mega could beat this in court quite easily with a competent firearms attorney who also is a gun enthusiast, but they want to be a machine shop, and not waste possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars on some scheisters playing tennis with their clients behind their backs like a turdhouse, cheap-suit, dirtball family law, feces sucking, used-car salesman-trained magic trick buttclown.

Mega is taking the smart approach by introducing something new, and looking at this as an opportunity, rather than letting the scheisters turn Mega's profits into their financial opportunity in an out-of-court settlement or judgement issued by some mafia-appointed judge, raping little boys as his side job...you think I'm making this up, right.... I bet the threatened petitioners already have a venue in the South somewhere lined up, with the pederast judge hoping to schedule the case so he can pay off his time-share in the Bahamas. Did I mention I love attorneys? No offense to all the pristine, clean as snow lawyers out there, of course.

pure gold. wish i could fit it onto a bumper sticker, or embroidered on a wall hanging, pillow, or jacket. in the meantime, i'll just have to settle with plagiarizing some of LRRP's gems. beautiful stuff, that.

I went to a local gun builder yesterday, I had only been there once before. I was surprised to discover that the gun builds hanging on the wall were wearing an MTS type upper, nearly identical to the Mega product except in place of the MEGA logo it was blank. It wasn't smooth blank almost as though it was rubbed away.

Anyway knowing that this gun builder essentially buys parts from manufactuers with their logo on the lowers and assembles them in shop I asked the innocent question:

Hey you build using a monolithic upper but it isn't a MEGA but looks like a MEGA so what gives? Where are you getting these?

He didn't give me an answer instead he chose to play dumb so I mentioned that MEGA was discontinuing the production of the MTS citing legal battles and cost and again pressed for an answer.

He simply looked at me in disgust and stated "I don't believe I am at liberty to tell you where we get the uppers".

I promptly left, the guy couldn't even sale me an extractor spring after that, some "Arsenal"... Hmpfff.
