I like keeping my barrel/flash suppressors covered with one of those vinyl caps which can be purchased at gun shows and from various on-line vendors.. I know there is almost no chance anything will get into the muzzle, but I just feel better knowing it is covered..
The caps are mostly found black, but black isnt as easily seen on the end of a barrel.. I have read several threads where they can successfully shot off of the end of a barrel without changing the point of impact of the bullet, meaning the bullet never contacted it.. Regardless, I dont intend to test this..
You can find them in some other colors, but I was not able to find them in yellow*.. I thought was odd since I figured yellow would be the most preferred color.. Anyway I found red** ones for 17 cents apiece from DSG Arms (see: http://dsgarms.com/Search.aspx?Keyword=RCL10R).. That was by far the cheapest price since they normally go for a buck or two each anywhere else..
But regardless of the color, you get them home and at best they fit tight and are hard to remove from standard A2 flash suppressors.. In most cases they are just too tight to be used on the custom suppressors or brakes.. And we Grendel shooters are just out of luck..
The caps are a standard manufactured industrial item, available in a wide variety of sizes and colors.. The problem is they are mostly available in lots of 1000 or more, and who needs that many?? But there is another way..
For most 5.56 flash suppressors/muzzle brakes shove a 5/8 deep socket into the cap (it will be tight).. Make sure the rear of the socket is at the mouth of the plug and it is pushed into the cap as far as it will go..
Toss the cap covered socket into a pot of briskly boiling water.. Let it sit there for a minute or two, and then quench the part by dumping the water in the pot and running cold water over cap and socket until it is cold..
Think about it though.. The cap and socket are hot, as is the briskly boiling water.. Dont be stupid and burn yourself!!
Then to get the socket out of the cap, put the socket on a wrench or breaker bar, and then you should be able to twist the cap off.. Spraying a little bit of WD-40 will make it very easy, but you will find you can probably get if off without it..
For the bigger flash suppressors found on Grendels, I have found the 11/16 socket works..

* Sinclair International does sell them in yellow, but only as part of a $14 set of covers..
** I did see a discussion in which a red muzzle cap makes the gun look like a toy which also have red (actually they are more orange) muzzle caps.. To me, the red cap is just one more indication the firearm is safe.. I also use the yellow mag well plugs which cannot be installed unless the bolt is back..
