Hello the hoard, last Thursday I eventually got to shoot in my new Grendel. The attached pic is yours truly trying to cut a 45mm x 45 mm patch in half as well as the CZ.
Ok I have a few Qs to ask, when we were chronoing the load (Hornady a-max 123S) immediately after a clean we got the following results.

Ok it's a 22" barrel so why have I achieved a higher MV with the Mod (the best we could come up with was there was some un-burnt powder left).
Second after cleaning why is the MV low (I would have thought it would have been higher)?

My muzzle velocities tend to rise as I shoot a string as well, at least for several shots. I've always believed it is due to the barrel and chamber warming up after cleaning.
I've heard others state that their rifles have a slightly higher velocity with a suppressor (moderator) than without, so you're findings are consistent with that.
Although the moderator isn't a barrel, the gasses behind the bullet do remain somewhat more behind the bullet for longer with a suppressor, so the extra velocity makes sense.

Bingo on all of the above.
Buck-- Your velocity increase with a "moderator"/"silencer"/"suppressor" is because it acts like a very inefficient addition of barrel length. You have combustion gasses that were heretofore vented to the atmosphere now being consumed more completely and giving a small push to the projectile while they are at it. This phenomenon is frequently referred to as "freebore boost" within the suppressor community.

Buck...You can have a silencer/moderator in the UK?
When I left after my tour of duty with RAF in 1998, I thought they gathered all the guns up?

In most of Europe supressors are over the counter getting something to attach the to can be an issue though

Yes I/we can, so long as we can prove a good reason (stop hearing loss). I hope this helps to try and understand the firearms laws over here (ok it's wiki but not bad).

I was at RAF Valley (Wales) when Dunblane occurred. I was just leaving when they enacted the 1997 Firearms Act (I actually had a license for shotgun which was normally kept in the RAF armory...but I frequently kept it in my quarters). One of the estates on Anglesey Island (where I bought a bird dog) was raided a few months after I left (full SWAT kit and all!). The pilot who replaced me as the exchange officer couldn't get a shotgun license...
...but I must say, it sounds like it is easier to get a suppressor in the UK than here...what the heck?!!

And in New Zealand as well. Sold over the counter and many have them on Trade me as well (NZ's ebay)
