Wait on AA barrel or go with Midway/AR-Stoner?

What do you guys think? Is it worth waiting 2-3 months (guessing) or just go with a Midway .264lbc barrel? Let me know what you think...trying to decide between 16" and 18"...

Personally I'd wait. IF the wolf steel case ever hits the market, there could be problems with other chamber designs. However, if you are going to hand load most or all of your ammo then factory ammo is not an issue.

Now that the 6.5 Grendel is a SAAMI certified chamber, the variants will probably start to fizzle out and go away.

What are your intentions for the rifle? 18" - 20" would be the best all around blaster (imho.) Good velocity\range capabilities.

It will be used for hunting more than anything. The 18" lightweight seems to be a pretty good compromise, although a 16" would sure be nice for weight...

I had a 16" and always felt that a long barrel would have been better..

Have a 6.5 Grendel upper on order last projected ship date was April 6th have got it yet. I would think they would fill in house needs first.

What's the point of accepting immatations! I have waited this long all have said it will be worth the wait. I got optics ,mounts ,ammo and lower. All waiting to be a precision tool. Just hoping it gets here soon placed order end of Febuary.

Well here is some news that may change your mind. I canceled my order with AA and ordered the 18" from midway. It arrived today and is clearly marked 6.5 Grendel on the box and barrel. And they are in stock. I got mine in 3 days. It was not marked 264 lbc at all.

Liberty barrel?...when I emailed Satern a few weeks ago they were going to start chambering for Grendel again.

What make of barrel? Need to measure some fired brass to be sure it's SAAMI (not that it matters much for you at this point).

I just ordered an 18" barrel from midway. I'm not sure if I'll cancel my AA order at this point. I may call them and see if they tell me the two weeks thing again......two months later. I'm not too happy with the company that I ordered my handguard from. They won't even reply to my questions of ballpark shipping times. AA has great customer service.

I'm going to air my AR Stoner out tomorrow at the range, I'll report. I only have 20 rounds but it will be fun.

I personally wouldn't cancel an order with AA, since you could do one of several things:

1) Keep both barrels for 2 blasters, and compare as you go.

2) Sell one of the barrel/bolt combos on the forum at profit.

3) Build 2 uppers and swap back and forth.

I originally sided with an AA barrel as well, but after a few broken promises about delivery dates (and waiting over 4 months) I cancelled and went to JP. A week later my Grendel was finished. Now that I'm reading LRRP's post though, perhaps I shouldn't have cancelled the AA.

I decided I will get both and build two uppers, or two complete rifles. I'll see how they both shoot and then I'll make a decision whether or not to sell one configuration or the other. From what I can gather, the AR-Stoner Midway barrel is made by ER Shaw,as are the AA barrels(supposedly). All reviews I read on this barrel are good without any major complaints.
